Overview of the Activity
The Revenue Mobilisation, Investment, and Trade (REMIT) project, funded by the FCDO, aims to improve Pakistan’s investment climate and business environment, with a focus on promoting economic growth and green energy transition. In line with this, the Ministry of Industries and Production (MoIP) seeks to develop a National Electric Vehicles(EVs) policy. To fully realise the potential of the EV sector in reducing the import bill, creating jobs, and boosting exports, a holistic and integrated EV policy is urgently needed. This policy must address infrastructure development, consumer affordability, safety standards, and market integration to drive sustainable growth in the EVs sector.
Job Summary
The Quality & Standards Expert is responsible for developing a comprehensive set of national standards for EV production, usage, and recycling that align with international benchmarks. The aim is to establish guidelines for vehicle safety, battery performance, and environmental sustainability. The expert will ensure these standards are adopted industry-wide and compliant with export market requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop a comprehensive set of national quality and safety standards for EVs, including vehicles, batteries, and charging infrastructure, based on international benchmarks.
- Engage with the working group, technical experts and industry stakeholders to ensure standards are practical and effective.
- Establish a robust compliance framework for monitoring adherence to quality and safety standards among manufacturers and service providers.
- Conduct in-depth research on global standards and best practices in the EV sector to inform local adaptations.
- Benchmark Pakistan’s standards against those of leading countries to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.
- Guide development of resources and tools to assist manufacturers in meeting quality and safety standards.
- Facilitate dialogue between government and industry to align expectations and support continuous improvement in quality standards.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Quality Management, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., ISO etc.) are highly desirable.
- At least 10 years of experience in quality assurance, regulatory compliance, or standards development within the automotive, energy, or environmental sectors.
- Experience in working with government agencies and industry associations to develop and implement standards and compliance frameworks.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate and establish quality standards and performance metrics.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear, concise documentation and reports for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comprehensive knowledge of quality management systems and relevant standards related to EVs, batteries, and charging infrastructure.
- Familiarity with national and international regulatory requirements in the EV sector.
Reporting
The “Quality and Standards Expert” will report to REMIT Team Lead and Investment Climate Lead.
