General Position Summary

Mercy Corps seeks a Communications Officer who will support the country program teams in Pakistan. The Communications Officer will report to the Communications and Knowledge Management Specialist and support in creating visual designs for print and electronic media. This will involve creating brochures, publicity products, project reports, and other media for print and electronic use to promote and communicate the intended message of Mercy Corps interventions to stakeholders. Additionally, the Communications Officer shall help build on the existing communications archive with photos, briefs, and IEC material. For this purpose, the candidate should be proficient in graphic designing with at least working knowledge of photography and videography.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Produce and edit documents, reports, guidelines, and other documents.
  • Undertake field visits to collect photos and human-interest stories and create designs to highlight project interventions.
  • Assist in archiving data for easy access to project teams.
  • Periodically compile information and develop reports based on the requirements of project teams.
  • Create a wide range of graphics, including illustrations and photography-based content in line with the requirements of project teams and Mercy Corps branding guidelines.
  • Design and create presentations in PowerPoint, working from basic information from project teams.
  • Design newsletters, brochures, covers, posters, manuals, annual reports, booklets, organizational profiles to fit the organizational and project identity in line with appropriate branding guidelines.
  • Review final layouts and suggest improvements when necessary for printing.
  • Take contextual photos in the field to enrich the communications archive of the country program.

·       Encourages openness and communication in their team; encourages team members to submit reports if they have any concerns using reporting mechanisms e.g., Integrity Hotline and other options.

Works Directly With: TB Program team  

Knowledge and Experience  

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mass communication, social science, journalism, public relations, visual communication, or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in using graphic design applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and CorelDraw is required.
  • The candidate should be proficient in designing visual content in English and Urdu.
  • Proficiency in taking contextual photos in the field and during events is required.
  • Proficiency in videography and editing would be an asset.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in an NGO or INGO with knowledge of key development concepts.
  • Prior knowledge of archiving and CMS management would be an asset.
