Project Overview

The project envisioned by Pathfinder International seeks to improve access of services for survivors of violence and prevention of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), through working with community champions and linking them to appropriate referral pathways for increased access to services and support for persons of concern (POC). The project envisions protecting sexual and reproductive health outcomes that are impacted by violence, incorporating behavior change communication and tools, developing community-based protection approaches and initiating interventions that meaningfully engage men and boys, to create an enabling, gender positive environment for prevention and mitigation of gender-based violence.

Job Purpose

We are hiring an English to Pashto/Dari/Persion, Pashto /Dari/Persion  to English interpreter/translator to be based on a 7 months short term contract at Karachi.

Activities include providing professional interpretation services, supporting staff with community navigation and resource connections as assigned, tracking information and data in software systems as requested, and participating in service coordination, trainings and assessments as requested. The Dari & Pashto Interpreter may also assist in other instances in which a client requires an interpreter, as determined in consultation with the Interpretation Coordinator.

Key Performance Areas

Major Activities / Responsibilities

 

Interpretation

  • Provide direct interpretation and translation services for refugees
  • Provide direct bilateral and multilateral interpretation services.

Translation of IEC material

  • Translate project related documents as required, including such items as ID cards, educational certificates, letters of employment, case management documentation Translation of IEC materials etc.

Community based meetings

•      Facilitating community-based meetings

  • . Assist in secondary, related tasks, such as escorting the applicant(s) to and from interviews, conducting interpretation during roll-call, etc.

Communication

  • Facilitate the two-way communication by maintaining professionalism, diligence, impartiality, objectivity, and being cooperative and courteous to organization staff members and refugees.

  • Adhere to guidelines on interpretation and any trainings related to interpreting for a diverse range of applicants.

  • Abide by set codes of conduct.
  • Undertake other duties as may be assigned.

 

Minimum Education and Work Experience:

  • Graduate/ Diploma holder (12 years education)
  • Excellent command of Pustoon/Dari/Persion  and English, all oral and written;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and diplomacy skills; ability to use tact.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team  an international and multicultural environment.
  • 1-year translation/interpretation experience preferred.
  • Must hold a valid Pakistani CNIC.

 

Preferred Education and Work Experience:

  • Interpretation certification preferred.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, Dari and Pashto. Applicants will be tested for language proficiency prior to hiring.
  • Basic computer skills required. Must be able to use Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
  • Culturally sensitive; ability to build trust with clients, colleagues, and partners.
  • Must be a team player, detail oriented, patient, professional, and reliable.
  • Commitment to respecting and safeguarding client confidentiality and complying with standards for professional conduct in interpretation.

Competencies/Attributes:

•      Prior experience providing interpretation services strongly preferred.

  • Experience in working with refugees preferred.

  • Travel required (40% or less)
