JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Job Title:  Agribusiness Officers

Department:  Program

Job Purpose:  Identify and implement agribusiness activities at field level.

Reports To: Senior Agriculture Specialist

Location DIU Charsadda  


Position Summary:

This person will support the Agricultural and Value Chain Specialist in the project management (PMU) Unit in the implementation of the planned agricultural activities. The person will assist in facilitating operations, and developing and expanding agribusiness income generation opportunities for the farmers, as planned in the project activities. This person will conduct site visits as needed and will work in close collaboration with other staff members.

Reporting & Supervision:

The Agribusiness Officer reports to the Districts Coordinator (Operationally) and coordinates closely with the Senior Agriculture Specialist and Agribusiness and Value Chain Specialist (Programmatically).

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Organize and responsible for the Identification of market oriented, commercial value chains and agribusiness opportunities customized to KP-NMDs, in close cooperation with Government of KPK line Departments and private stakeholders, in particular with input suppliers, traders, buyers and end users of horticultural products.
  • Provide specialized technical assistance in the implementation of the project activities at field level.
  • Identified market opportunities and impediments for supply chain development and to develop strategies to solve bottleneck and to capture opportunities together with stakeholders.
  • Screen and analyze ongoing and completed agribusiness and value chains pilot projects for opportunities for up scaling, extension and dissemination.
  • Identify, analyse and recommend resources, skills and capacities for small farmers of KP-MD under each commodity regarding procurement of quality/certified inputs and production of fruits and vegetables;
  • Identify and compile recommendations for the capacity development of producer associations to access financial and other services and required resources.
  • Develop linkages of Producers Marketing Collective (PMCs) with markets, individuals and other groups for strengthening public private partnerships for sale and purchase of value added agricultural products,
  • Build linkages with other value chain development partners/actors in KP-NMDs and private sector for synergies and complementarities, and  
  • Submitted periodic monthly and quarterly progress reports as required by project management/MEL team of the project.
  • Any other task assigned the supervisor within the area of his/her expertise.

Experience

At least three (05) years progressive responsible work experience in Agribusiness, Value Chain, Agriculture production, private sector linkages and management; work experience on USAID or any other donor funded projects preferred.

 

Hands on experience and understanding of district specific value chains and agribusinesses.

 

Skills & Competencies

Computer literacy with demonstrated use of word processing, database and presentation software (Word, Excel, Power Point etc.)

Excellent writing and communications skills in English required.

Qualification / Knowledge

University degree or higher in Horticulture, Agribusiness Management, Value Chain Development or MBA Marketing with experience in Horticulture Value Chains.
