Job Description:

Organizational Context and Scope:

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and direct supervision of the Senior Programme Coordinator in IOM Pakistan and the Project Manager, the MHPSS /Mental Health Assistantposition requires to be stationed in the Islamabad, with daily travels to the various assigned locations, where the beneficiaries (from the Afghanistan Relocation Assistance Policy) will be accommodated/activities conducted as per the deliverables the following sections:.  

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Core Functions / General Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a mobile team, in the various assigned locations, where the beneficiaries (from the Afghanistan Relocation Assistance Policy)will be accommodated,  and planned activities conducted, in close coordination with MHD, Operations and Protection team, and Conduct needs assessment to determine the gaps and plan specific activities for the targeted beneficiaries.
  • Assist in implementation of IOM’s Mental Health and Psychosocial support activities and through activities such as provision of psychoeducational materials aimed to address and promote mental health and psychosocial wellbeing, reduce levels of distress and anxiety related to the relocation context.
  • Coordinate the communications with MHD Unit, and facilitate referrals, ensuring effective referral of individuals in need of specialist services and strengthening existing sociocultural resilience and coping mechanism of individuals and group.
  • Conduct activities, closely coordinated between MHPSS and protection teams, especially when women and children are concerned, with consideration to protection issues and working with protection teams to focus on enhancing of the mental well-being of the Afghan migrants and to better adapt to the transition phase.
  • Assist in advising on access and referrals for  to specialized services, such as advanced mental health and psycho-social support, child protection or gender-based violence (GBV) services, as needed.
  • Deliver presentations, guidelines, tools, and other resources to support the implementation of activities.
  • Deliver Psychological First Aid services to beneficiaries.
  • Provide active listening/counselling services to frontline health workers.
  • Create periodic reports on Programme delivery,
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Education and Experience :
  • MS Degree in counselling/clinical psychology with 3 years of experience.

Languages:

Required:
  • Good working knowledge in English is required (oral and written)

Desirable :

  • Working knowledge of Pashtu, Dari or any other local language/s.
