Job Description:

The TB Counsellor will be responsible for providing counselling and support services to index TB patients and their eligible household contacts for Tuberculosis Preventive Treatment (TPT). Based in District Lasbela, the position requires regular follow-up visits to District Hub. The role includes counselling, refusal case management, facilitation at TPT facilities, documentation, and close coordination with DFSs, DTCs, TB screeners, and facility physicians to ensure smooth initiation and adherence to TPT

Main Responsibilities:

Counselling & Client Support

  • Counsel index TB patients and eligible household contacts on TPT via phone calls, facility sessions, household visits, and participation in chest/contact screening camps.
  • Address refusal cases by clarifying concerns, fears, and misconceptions, motivating patients to initiate TPT.
  • Support patients in treatment adherence and provide guidance in case of adverse events.

 Coordination & Case Management

  • Coordinate with the District Field Supervisor (DFS) to obtain updated lists of TB patients, household contact details, and follow-up/refusal cases.
  • Ensure referred household contacts attend facilities for X-ray screening, physician assessment, and TPT initiation if eligible.
  • Maintain close coordination with DTCs, TPT facility staff, X-ray service providers, and physicians.

 Facility-Level Facilitation

  • Assist clients with registration, documentation, X-ray screening, consultations, and receiving TPT medicines (if eligible).
  • Provide guidance on medication use and ensure clients understand the treatment process.

 Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate data and registers, including Counselor Activity Register, X-ray Site Register, Referral Slips, and TPT Cards.
  • Prepare and submit monthly workplans and progress reports covering counselling, TPT initiation, and follow-up outcomes.
  • Record all field visits conducted in both Lasbela and Hub.

 Logistics & Supplies

  • Ensure availability of TPT medicines at designated facilities.
  • Immediately report shortages or stockouts to the supervisor.

 Other Responsibilities

  • Participate in all required orientations, trainings, and refresher sessions.
  • Adhere to SPO and Mercy Corps program guidelines, protocols, and reporting standards.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Psychology, Public Health, or related field.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in community mobilization, counselling, or health-based field work (preferred).
  • Experience working in District Lasbela or Hub will be an added advantage.
  • Basic understanding of TB and TPT (training will be provided).
