Over the years, IOM has expanded and affirmed its role as the leading Organization assisting the Government of Pakistan to ensure humane and orderly movement of people by devising practical solutions to shifting dynamics of migration, protecting, assisting and supporting vulnerable migrant populations, promoting international cooperation on migration issues and serving as a key source of advice on migration policy, research, data and practice Pakistan remains the third-largest refugee-
hosting country globally, hosting Afghan refugees holding Proof of Registration (PoR) cards, Afghan Citizenship Card (ACC) holders, and undocumented Afghan migrants.
IOM supports the Government of Pakistan in the implementation of cross-border programming supporting Afghan migrants and refugees and contributes towards promoting peaceful co-existence with host communities. In line with the strategic Comprehensive Action Plan for Afghanistan and Neighbouring Countries (2021-2024), IOM Pakistan will support the most vulnerable communities hosting Afghan migrants and refugees to address humanitarian needs and reduce protection risks for people on the move, in parallel to anticipatory action to mitigate the crisis impact, save lives and livelihoods, and enable societies to transition and recover towards sustainable development.
Under the overall supervision of the WASH & SNFI Programme Manager and under direct supervision of the Senior WASH Team Coordinator, the successful candidate will help coordinate and contribute to the implementation of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) activities in compliance with IOM’s and donors’ rules and regulations to support high-quality programme implementation.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Lead the team of community mobilizers and hygiene promoters in the implementation of community events to raise awareness about key hygiene issues and their implications on the health of the community and in coordination with IOM Implementing partners.
- Assist in preparing of IEC Materials to be used at the community level.
- Ensure the accurate conveyance of hygiene and sanitation messages.
- Prioritize community-level hygiene awareness campaigns and prevention of water Born disease.
- Coordinate training for community representatives on Hygiene, sanitation, and Cholera control.
- Plan and ensure the accurate distribution of Hygiene Kits and Household purification supplies.
- Work in collaboration with IOM Implementing partners to ensure accurate implementation of the interventions.
- Work in collaboration with IOM Implementing partners to ensure accurate implementation of the interventions. Support the implementing partners in facilitating community participation during the emergency interventions.
- Conduct continuous monitoring and evaluation of project activities with relevant implementing partners.
- Identify, compile, and maintain training materials for use.
- Provide information on technical problems and feedback to the technical team on time.
- Support the implementing partner in conducting surveys (i.e, baseline, KAP)
- Any other duties assigned by the Unit Supervisor.
Required Qualifications and Experience
EDUCATION
- BSc Degree/Diploma in Environmental Health, Public Health, and Social Science fields with four years of relevant professional experience.
EXPERIENCE
- Experience in the implementation of Hygiene promotion activities in emergency contexts, preferably in countries facing humanitarian crises and in support of emergency responses; experience in the region is an advantage.
- Experience in Community mobilization and working with partners.
Languages
REQUIRED
For this position, fluency in English and working knowledge of Pashto are required (oral and written).
DESIRABLE
Fluency in Pashtu is highly desirable
Working knowledge of Urdu is highly desirable
