Job Summary:

The purpose of the Driver position is to provide driving services to authorized passengers and goods. She/he takes care of the passengers, the property in his/her custody and ensures that the vehicle is insured and properly maintained. She/he also reports accidents immediately to the supervisor.

This position is responsible for driving effectively and efficiently in accordance with the Care policies and procedures. This position holder updates and reviews the vehicle logbooks and proposes maintenance work in vehicles to the supervisor. The position holder ensures all vehicles are always maintained and clean. This position provides office helper support functions in the administrative functions.

Job Responsibilities and Tasks

1. Provide Transport Services (70% of the time):

  • Provide transport service to CARE staff and visitors as instructed during working hours or out of working hours as may be required.
  • Transports CARE staff and guests to and from the field as assigned.

2. Support Services (10% of the time):

  • Meets and assists visitors/staff on arrival and departure as required.
  • Assists in the distribution of mail to and from the Office when assigned.
  • Assists in collecting mail to and from the post office, courier services, etc. 

3. Vehicle Care and Safety (10% of the time):

  • Takes responsibility for the safety of the vehicle assigned tools and accessories.
  • Ensure that the daily vehicle checklist must be prepared and submitted to the supervisor.
  • Ensures that the vehicle is always kept clean and usable.
  • Checks oil, fuel, water, tires, brakes and other electrical systems before starting to drive the car.
  • Follows up maintenance need of the vehicle and promptly reports back to immediate supervisor.
  • Makes sure that he/she drives within the speed limits set by CARE and according to traffic regulations.
  • Makes sure to wear seat belt and always asks and make sure that his/her passengers wear seat belt.
  • Ensures validity of his/her driving license.

4. Reporting (5% of the time):

  • Reports accidents timely to his/her supervisor.
  • Maintains the daily vehicle log by legibly recording in English at all trip times, mileage and destinations.
  • Maintain the periodic log of the oil and filters change.
  • Perform Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

5. Other responsibilities as assigned (5% of the time):

  • Any other tasks or responsibilities based on organizational and programming needs as assigned by the Line Manager.


A) Qualification (Know/How)

Education & Training:

  • Completion of matriculation and valid driving license.
  • Defensive driving and auto mechanic background will be an addition

B) Experience/Technical Skills

Required:

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in passengers driving with INGOs will be preferred.
  • Skill in Off-road driving.
  • Good spoken English will be an added advantage.
  • Trustworthy and reliable.
  • Valid driving license and good driving record.
  • Physical fitness and willingness to work under pressure, possible long working hours and frequent field travel.
  • Basic mechanical skill to be able to do small repairs if necessary.
  • Firm belief in teamwork, gender equality.
