The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center, is on the lookout for a talented individual to join our team in Lahore, Pakistan as a Senior Human Resources Officer.
The Senior Human Resources Officer will implement and coordinate the employment cycle in Pakistan, which includes recruitment, training, employee relations, performance management, safeguarding and occupational health and safety. The person will provide analytical and experienced support based on IWMI values, policies, and best practices, serving as the first point of contact for staff in Pakistan, contributing to people solutions, and implementing broader human resources activities in the country.
This position will be based in Lahore, Pakistan, with direct reporting to the Head of Human Resources at IWMI Headquarters in Sri Lanka with secondary reporting to the Country Representative for Pakistan.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Act as the HR focal point for managers and staff in Pakistan, promoting decision-making aligned with IWMI's values, policies, processes, and Pakistan employment law.
- Implement the recruitment and selection process for IWMI staff in Pakistan, adhering to internal recruitment practices and ensuring compliance with donor guidelines.
- In consultation with the Human Resources unit at HQ, provide support and advice to managers and staff on resolving HR issues, interpreting, and applying HR policies and practices in day-to-day work.
- Assist staff in translating business requirements into effective HR practices, delivering people solutions aligned with IWMI’s objectives and values.
- Partner with the HR team at HQ to support local policies on disciplinary and grievance procedures, ensuring compliant decision-making and supporting leaders in complex situations.
- Implement the induction program for new hires in Pakistan to facilitate a smooth transition into the organization.
- Support the implementation of engagement, performance management, learning and development, safeguarding, and health and safety initiatives for Pakistan offices.
- Prepare HR reports and undertake projects related to global HR activities and projects as assigned.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of HR processes, procedures, and practices.
Requirements
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Essential,
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a higher degree in International Development or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Human Resources generalist.
- Demonstrated experience in handling confidential and sensitive information with integrity and discretion.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Essential,
- Knowledge and expertise in HR policies, processes, and practices, including recruitment and onboarding, performance management, learning & development, and compensation and benefits.
- Knowledge of employment laws and regulations in Pakistan, preferably within an international organization environment.
- Ability to take initiative and work effectively in a multicultural and multi-functional environment.
- Fluent in English and Urdu.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook).
- Strong administrative and communication skills with a service-oriented approach.

This is a nationally recruited position and only Pakistan nationals will be considered. IWMI offers a competitive salary and benefits package, inclusive of health insurance, life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, and long-term disability coverage. The duration of the contract will initially be for a period of three years with the possibility of extension.
