 Background

Aiming Change for Tomorrow (ACT) is a humanitarian and development organization working in District Khairpur Mir’s to strengthen disaster preparedness, community resilience, and climate adaptation mechanisms. ACT collaborates with government institutions and partners to enhance early warning systems, Emergency Operations Centres (DEOC & TEOC), and community-based disaster risk management.

To promote youth engagement and build future professionals in the humanitarian sector, ACT is launching a 4-Week Summer Internship Program for university students.

 Purpose of the Internship

The purpose of this internship is to provide students with practical exposure to the operational, technical, and field-level functions of a humanitarian organization. The program aims to enhance participants’ professional skills, knowledge, and understanding of disaster risk management and community engagement.

 Objectives

  • To familiarize interns with humanitarian principles and organizational working mechanisms.
  • To provide hands-on experience in project implementation and coordination.
  • To build capacity of students in disaster preparedness and resilience-building approaches.
  • To promote learning through field exposure and community interaction.

Duration and Location

  • Duration: June 1, 2026 – June 30, 2026 (4 Weeks)
  • Location: ACT Office and Field Areas, District Khairpur Mir’s

Eligible Disciplines

Applicants must be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from relevant fields, including:

  • Public Administration
  • Social Work
  • Sociology
  • Gender Studies
  • Environmental Science

 Scope of Work / Key Responsibilities

Interns will:

  • Participate in on-job learning sessions and orientation workshops.
  • Support ongoing project activities and documentation processes.
  • Assist in coordination with field teams and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to data collection, reporting, and analysis (if required).
  • Participate in exposure visits to:
    • District & Taluka Emergency Operations Centres (DEOC & TEOC)
    • Automated Weather Station (AWS)
  • Engage in community-level interactions and awareness activities.

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the internship, interns are expected to:

  • Understand the structure and functions of humanitarian organizations.
  • Gain knowledge of disaster preparedness and early warning systems.
  • Develop communication, coordination, and reporting skills.
  • Acquire practical field experience in community engagement.

 

Supervision and Reporting

  • Interns will work under the direct supervision of ACT’s designated focal person.
  • Regular feedback and guidance will be provided throughout the internship period.
  • Interns may be required to submit a brief report at the end of the program.

 

 Code of Conduct

Interns are expected to:

  • Maintain professionalism, discipline, and punctuality.
  • Respect organizational policies and confidentiality requirements.
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior during office and field activities.

 

 Certification

  • A certificate of completion will be awarded to interns who successfully complete the program and meet performance expectations.

 

Financial Considerations

  • This is an unpaid internship unless otherwise specified by ACT.
  • ACT may facilitate exposure visits; however, interns will manage personal expenses unless informed otherwise.
