Job Description
Cashier-cum-Assistant Accountant
Organization: Al Mustafa Eye Hospital
Location: Head Office, Lahore
Reports to: Finance Accounts
Position Objective
The Cashier-cum-Assistant Accountant will be responsible for managing day-to-day cash transactions, maintaining precise financial records, and supporting the finance department in ensuring compliance with organizational policies. This role requires a high level of integrity, particularly in handling donor funds and hospital-related billing.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cash Management & Handling
- Manage the daily petty cash float and ensure all disbursements are supported by approved vouchers.
- Handle all incoming cash and cheque receipts from donors, hospital services, or pharmacy sales.
- Perform daily cash reconciliations and prepare "Cash in Hand" reports for management review.
- Ensure the physical security of cash and maintain the cash vault/safe according to protocol.
2. Accounting & Record Keeping
- Record all financial transactions (Receipts, Payments, Journal Vouchers) into the accounting software.
- Maintain a systematic filing system for all financial documents, including invoices, bank statements, and tax records.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly bank reconciliation statements.
- Verify the accuracy of invoices and ensure appropriate cost-center allocation.
3. Hospital-Specific Financial Support
- Oversee the billing process for hospital patients, ensuring accurate recording of discounts or charity waivers provided by the organization.
- Reconcile daily hospital collection reports with the general ledger.
- Coordinate with the hospital administration to track inventory costs (medical supplies/pharmacy) where required.
4. Compliance & Audit Support
- Ensure all transactions comply with organizational SOPs and statutory requirements (FBR/PCP etc).
- Assist the senior F&A team during internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation.
- Prepare schedules for withholding tax on payments to vendors and employees.
Candidate Profile
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce (B.Com/BBA).
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in a dual cashiering and accounting role.
- Sector Background: Prior experience in a Hospital or a Charitable/NGO environment is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in MS Excel and accounting software.
- Familiarity with hospital Accounting.
Prior experience in Administrative and Procurement tasks will be considered an added advantage.
Required Competencies
- Integrity: Absolute honesty in handling liquid assets and donor contributions.
- Accuracy: High attention to detail to minimize errors in data entry and cash counting.
- Communication: Ability to interact professionally with donors, patients, and staff.
- Organization: Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet month-end closing deadlines.
