Position Summary:

A Project Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating technical component of programme activities in the context of the PATS+ approach with special considerations to the gender, protection & inclusion. The project coordinator will ensure that minimum WASH standards / SPHERE standards are fully compliant & project hardware components also adhere to the climate & DRR aspects. He/She shall also ensure programme implementation as per PATS standards. This position will be responsible for technical guidance and ensuring gender responsive and inclusive WASH activities through managing and coordinating field staff and other stakeholders at district level. The coordinator shall also provide technical oversight to the district field team(s), monitor project progress & ensure compliances to the reporting requirements.

Job Description:

As a Project Coordinator, the main responsibilities will include:

  • Manage and coordinate the technical implementation of WASH programme as per the PATS+ approach. This involves planning, organizing, and monitoring the activities to ensure they align with project goals and objectives are fully compliant to the PATS standards.
  • Ensure compliance to the WASH sphere standards, national water & sanitation policies, TWGs guidelines on safe sanitation, MHM & other components.
  • Lead design & implementation of hardware components in consultation with the PHED, national standards & PATS approach guidelines ensuring climate & DRR inclusiveness.    
  • Support in designing & supervising Pre & Post KAP assessments to identify the specific WASH needs of the target populations in the project areas & also the key gaps in behavior change. This includes assessing water sources, sanitation facilities, hygiene practices, and overall community health conditions related to generally overall beneficiaries and specifically to vulnerable groups like women and girls.
  • Support Project Manager in mainstreaming gender, inclusion & protection elements as per the HA’s & donor guidelines & ensure maximum women participation & inclusion of vulnerable segments.
  • Based on the assessment and review of the project documents, lead and contribute to the development of gender & inclusion strategy and inclusive approaches for ensuring the participation of women and girls in scaling up of WASH situation in the project area at all levels of activities.  
  • Coordinate & collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including government authorities, humanitarian organizations, and community leaders, to ensure a coordinated and integrated approach to gender responsive and inclusive WASH interventions. Also ensure sectoral coordination to avoid overlapping, duplication & outreach to most vulnerable & neglected areas.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to field staff and stakeholders involved in implementing WASH program. This includes ensuring adherence to technical standards, best practices, and quality assurance measures in water supply, sanitation, and hygiene promotion activities.
  • Support in developing project implementation plans, monitoring frameworks to assess the progress and impact of WASH interventions. Regular data collection, analysis, and reporting will be essential to track the achievements, identify challenges, and propose corrective actions & preventive measures.
  • Identify training needs and facilitate capacity-building activities for project staff, government line agencies, and community members. This may involve conducting training sessions on hygiene promotion, inclusion, maintenance & sustainability of WASH facilities.
  • You will prepare timely and accurate reports on WASH activities, including progress reports, donor reports, and case studies. Documentation of best practices, lessons learned, and success stories
  • Support PM and WASH Programme coordinator in designing and implementation of all WASH infrastructural activities in socially inclusive and technically standardized manner.      

Overall, as a Coordinator, your role is critical in ensuring gender responsive and inclusive access to safe water, improved sanitation facilities, and promoting good hygiene practices for the target populations. By coordinating and implementing effective and inclusive WASH program, you contribute to the well-being and health of communities.

Staff Management

  • Ensure effective and efficient management of the direct reports
  • Develop staff planning
  • Perform staff appraisal, staff capacity building by identifying support needs and report the suggestions to the Program Manager
  • Keep a positive, flexible and dynamic work environment
  • Leads capacity development with field staff to ensure competency levels which allow staff to do their work accordingly.
  • Work with the Project Manager to supervise and provide training for all other WASH staff

Reporting

  • Ensure to gather information from the team and prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports
  • Contribute in reviewing monthly and quarterly progress reports
  • Review monitoring report & prepare performance improvement plans
  • Contribute in reviewing the financial reports, review expenditures & consolidate project financials
  • Supporting PM to prepare monthly & quarterly reporting package

Collaboration

  • Coordinate with other Agencies, Local Authorities and Government stakeholders in the District and ensure that the project is targeted to the appropriate target population.
  • To coordinate and foster relations with other HAP Programs in the district to ensure programme integration, resource allocation & effectiveness.
  • Participate in regular coordination & cluster meetings at the district & provincial level
  • Collaborate with support service departments like Operations, Finance and HR to ensure supporting the team requests.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in (WASH, Civil engineering) 
  • 5 years of total experience and a minimum 03 years of sector-specific experience at a similar role.
  • Thorough understanding of WASH infrastructure and soft components
  • Experience of managing WASH projects through PATS+ approaches 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform;
  • Excellent skills on computer operation, especially on MS Word &  Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of Community Revolving Fund and Sanitation Micro crediting
  • Community mobilization and engagement skills
  • Problem solving ability and negotiation skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
