Project Overview

Pathfinder International is a global leader in sexual and reproductive health. Pathfinder works to improve access of services for gender-based violence survivors and prevention of gender-based violence, through working with community champions and linking them to appropriate referral pathways for increased access to services.

Pathfinder with UNFPA will provide GBV humanitarian response in two of the high flood-affected districts of Sindh i.e. Sanghar & Shaheed Benazirabad. The GBV in emergency interventions includes the establishment of Women Friendly Spaces for the provision of psychosocial support and lifesaving services to women and girls, strengthening the GBV referral mechanism for provision of the essential multi-sectoral lifesaving services and strengthening GBV coordination in flood response and monitoring and Reporting, in the targeted districts of Sindh.

Job Summary: The Gender Specialist will work with, the Pathfinder office and the UNFPA Regional Office in ensuring activities and technical advancements within the framework of related regional strategies for gender transformative approaches within departmental activities and implementation. She will provide technical support to the development of the strategies, to the departments and the technical working groups and the multi-sectoral coordination committee in the implementation the initiative and technical support in the new areas and the international guidelines and best practices.

Major Activities / Responsibilities

   Gender Specialist Duties & Responsibilities:

The Gender Specialist will be responsible for providing technical and strategic support keeping in the national and international best practices. Provides strategic direction to the organization, Government and the stakeholders working on GBV.

   Key Responsibilities:

  • The Gender Specialist will be responsible for providing strategic and technical support to strengthen the work of the Projects on gender equality across priority sectors.
  • Provide direct technical assistance and guidance on to the program.
  • Support the development of tools, systems, processes, and approaches that continuously improve technical excellence and impact in transformative approaches.
  • Lead, coordinate, support, and/or conduct gender and power analyses, effectiveness and efficacy studies, appraisal, evaluation and needs assessments as required by the program.
  • Assist with quantitative/qualitative assessments in targeted communities to assess the effectiveness of interventions and impact.
  • Work closely with other technical specialists to integrate gender across all Program components.
  • Addressing causal factors that are implicated in concerns that are identified.
  • Need assessment for the team working on GBV and build the capacity of the team when and where required.
  • Lead/ facilitate the development of the gender transformative communication strategy, OSPC implementation, medico-legal reforms and other relevant area of the project.
  • Technical lead to the technical working group meeting and multi-sectoral coordination on GBV and technical support to the team and provide strategic directions to the departments related to GBV.
  • Development of Social Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC).
  • Any other task assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Education and Work Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Gender Studies from recognized University/ Law Graduate from a recognized University/ OR master’s in social sciences from a recognized University.
  • Minimum 03 years of relevant technical experience of working on GBV and with the Government system. 
  • Specialized studies on gender/women-related subjects will be an added advantage.
  • Initiative and creativity in solving problems with strong facilitation and analytical skills.
  • Strong ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Good organizing skills and interpersonal skills
