U.S. Mission Pakistan is seeking applications from qualified individuals for the “Painter” position in U.S. Embassy Islamabad.

Basic Function of the Position – The incumbent works in the Facility Management section of the Embassy. S/he carries out scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance and repair work on finish and interior and exterior surfaces in all mission buildings and facilities including residential owned and leased properties. S/he Performs maintenance and repair to maintain function, ensure quality, and extend the useful life of critical equipment and infrastructure and the protective and decorative surface coatings of fixtures, furniture, and equipment on the New Embassy Compound and at off-compound facilities. The incumbent is responsible to prepares all types of surfaces for treatment including metal, iron, gypsum, wood, stucco, and masonry in accordance with manufacturers recommendations so that new coating materials will adhere properly and prepares coating materials using manufacturer guidelines by thinning, tinting, toning, etching, blending, and mixing in various additives (i.e., retardants, hardeners, drying agents, and other additives) needed for the different coatings to work properly and achieve the necessary surface appearance. S/he organizes worksite to ensure safety, work effectiveness and a clean environment. Follows extensive safety program for working at heights and utilizing chemicals. In accordance with Department standards, safely assembles, disassembles, and climbs scaffolds, work platforms and ladders as necessary to gain access to high work areas and complete assignments. The incumbent carries out preventative maintenance including inspecting, adjusting, and troubleshooting painting shop equipment and cleans tools and supplies.

Qualification Requirements:

Education: Completion of Secondary School (10 years of education) is required or completion of vocational training from an accredited institute recognized as producing journeyman level technicians with a concentration in painting is required.

Experience:  Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of interior and exterior surfaces and structures such as painting and refinishing is required.

Skills and Abilities: The incumbent must be able to prepare surfaces for coating application and be able to apply paints and finishes using the correct use methodology to select the appropriate product choice for a multitude of different environments applied to a multitude of different materials. Ability to mix paints and finishes, match colors and be able to erect and work from scaffoldings, riggings, ladders and lifts. S/he must be able to work in various adverse conditions such as tight or enclosed spaces, on ladders at various heights, and in temperature extremes, indoors or outdoors to complete work assignments. The incumbent must be able to use a computer; to include MS Word and Outlook, and able to write e-mails and have ability to safely use all job related tools, equipment, and materials under their control in the performance of their job. Ability to identify problems or dangers, report issues and provide solution. The incumbent must be able to work as part of a team, work under pressure, tight schedule and a flexible approach to work shifts and answer emergency calls at all hours. Skills and abilities may be tested.
