Overview:

Through funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Jhpiego is implementing the ‘Protecting and Improving Health Globally: Building and Strengthening Public Health Impact, Systems, Capacity and Security’ project in Pakistan.

Hospital waste management has been a challenging area generally across all health facilities in Pakistan. Improper waste segregation leads to improper waste disposal and contributes significant share in healthcare associated infections. Improved understanding & orientation of Hospital managers and IPC Focal points and waste management supervisors will help these managers to mitigate challenges and provide practical solutions for improved facility-based waste management through problem-based learnings. Hospital Janitors need to have an improved understanding on importance of improving their personal hygiene, environmental Cleaning including surface cleaning, occupational health & safety, Hand Hygiene etc. through a structured capacity building and refresher trainings in local languages.

Jhpiego Pakistan, An Affiliate of Johns Hopkins University USA, is seeking a “Short Term-Technical Consultant-IPC Trainings” to provide technical support to senior program coordinator in developing and updating IPC training material with particular focus on “hospital waste management” under Enhancing Global Health Security (EGHS) Program activities in Pakistan.

Working Modality: This is a short-term consultant position which require an LOE of maximum 45 days till September 2023 to with distribution of work (both remote and onsite) and require 30% travel to training venue across the country as follows.

a)     Remote work= 40%

b)     On-site work at Jhpiego office Islamabad= 30%

c)     Travel and execution of IPC trainings at provinces= 30%

Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Coordinator-IPC, she/he will support the review, development and update of existing IPC training material as for two categories of IPC trainings

a)     Provincial level training of hospital managers and IPC focal points on Hospital based IPC program implementation and Hospital waste management. (module to be developed in English)

b)     Hospital level training of Janitorial staff on hospital waste management (including environmental and surface cleaning etc)- Modules to be developed in Urdu language.

Pilot training material for both categories in one province and recommend updates based on piloting experience

Planning and supporting conduction of two master level IPC training and submit training report on agreed format.

Planning and supporting conduction of two hospital level training of janitorial staff and submit raining report on agreed format.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • A qualified medical (MBBS/BDS), Nursing graduate (with MSc-Nursing) or qualified microbiologist with at least 3-4 years’ experience of leading Infection prevention and control Unit in large tertiary care hospitals. Certification/Diploma in IPC will be an added advantage.
  • Must have essential knowledge and understanding of WHO IPC Core components & provincial IPC priorities and strategic challenges at provincial and/or hospital level.
  • Demonstrated capacity of developing IPC related training materials and leading IPC training events.
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based hospital-based waste management practices as per national guidelines.
  •  Strong analytical and computer skills including command on MS-Word and Excel, urdu inpage etc.
  • Ability to work independently in a complex environment with multiple tasks and short deadlines.
  • Excellent presentation skills, verbal and written communications & skills
  • Willing to travel extensively across all provinces in Pakistan.
  • Covid vaccination certificate would be desirable as per government protocols.
