Malteser International is the international humanitarian relief agency of the Sovereign Order of Malta. For over 60 years we provide relief and recovery for people during and following conflicts and disasters around the world. In over 30 countries in Africa, the Americas, Asia, and the Middle East, we support people in need – regardless of their religion, origin or political convictions.

Malteser International (MI) has been active in Pakistan since the Kashmir earthquake of 2005 and has been providing humanitarian aid after disasters and in crisis. Our aid focuses on healthcare, livelihood security and disaster risk reduction. Since 2014, our activities have targeted communities in the Swat and Peshawar regions (KPK province) and on various districts of Sindh province. MI has a country office in Islamabad. Currently, MI implementing a project “Life-saving and integrated health care and nutrition project for crisis-affected people in Pakistan” and a flood relief project in Sindh. Malteser International is planning to launch another primary health care project in Afghan Refugees villages and camps in KP province. Malteser International is looking for Nutrition Assistant based at BHUs.  

Your responsabilités :

  • Working closely with the health facility staff (FMO/LHV/CHWs/LHWs) to identify malnourished children, pregnant and lactating women for nutritional screening;
  • Conducting screening of children under the age of five and PLW to monitor and ensure early detection of malnutrition cases.
  • Registration and management of malnourished cases;
  • Participating in community outreach services for adequate nutrition.
  • Counsel and advise referrals/follow-ups/parents/guardians on proper care and nutrition at home.
  • Arranging, organizing and conducting awareness raising sessions on IYCF, nutritional needs of PLW, importance of balanced diet and other nutrition related problems;
  • Keep strong coordination with Outreach staff on referral and integrated case management package.
  • Carry out home visits as a follow up on discharged patients to ensure adherence of the clients on the nutrition programs.
  • Prepare and submit the nutrition reports as guided by the Supervisor.
  • Imparting nutrition related knowledge and skills to health facility staff.
  • Through liaison with the community groups, provide effective follow up of all cases: particularly tracing of children who are absent from the program, sick children, long stay children, children not gaining weight, and children with social problems etc.
  • Provide key Health and Nutrition education messages to beneficiaries based on the protocol and guidelines.
  • Provide success stories / case studies in the intervention with coordination of Health facility in charge, Nutrition Officer / Manager.
  • Report on any problems in a timely manner to health facility In-charge for a prompt action.
  • This list is not limited; the employee may be required to perform any other task necessary and compatible with its functions assigned by the supervisor.

Your Profile :

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in nutrition or qualified and trained LHV with 4 Year relevant work experience.
  • At least 02 years working experience in N/INGO in relevant position and program (i.e., CMAM & IYCF). 
  • Previous experience working in CMAM program is an asset.
  • Experience in closely working with CAR/DoH staff at health facility level is advantageous.
  • Ability and willingness to autonomously travel to duty site/ health facility and villages, if required.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Fluent in Urdu and Pashto.
  • Familiar and adherence with local culture.

  • Start Date: 15th April 2023

  • Duration of contract: 12 months (extendable 2024)
  • Salary according to qualification and experience
