Malteser International is the international humanitarian relief agency of the Sovereign Order of Malta. For over 60 years we provide relief and recovery for people during and following conflicts and disasters around the world. In over 30 countries in Africa, the Americas, Asia, and the Middle East, we support people in need – regardless of their religion, origin or political convictions.

Malteser International (MI) has been active in Pakistan since the Kashmir earthquake of 2005 and has been providing humanitarian aid after disasters and in crisis. Our aid focuses on healthcare, livelihood security and disaster risk reduction. Since 2014, our activities have targeted communities in the Swat and Peshawar regions (KPK province) and on various districts of Sindh province. MI has a country office in Islamabad. Currently, MI implementing a project “Life-saving and integrated health care and nutrition project for crisis-affected people in Pakistan” and a flood relief project in Sindh. Malteser International is planning to launch another primary health care project in Afghan Refugees villages and camps in KP province. Malteser International is looking for Female Medical Officers based at BHUs.  

Your responsabilités :

  • Supervise Malteser International staff working in respective BHU;
  • Provide curative care services to men, women and children, and identify high-risk cases and chronic diseases those are not curable at BHU level and insure an effective and timely referral to the designated hospital/clinic;
  • Conduct normal deliveries in her duty hours (if labour room exits at BHU/there is any emergency case);
  • Responsible for random checks of medicines/consumables/medical equipment in the pharmacy;
  • Identify staff training needs and share with project manager for arranging required capacity building/developing trainings,
  • Provide on job coaching to LHVs/TBAs e.g. importance of ANC visits during pregnancy, safe and clean delivery, new born care, PNC, screening of high risk pregnancy, Acute Respiratory Infections, Expanded program on Immunization, malnutrition etc;
  • Ensure all BHU/staff related issues are timely communicated and discussed with Project Manager to be solved;
  • Ensure good standard of cleanness is maintained in work area;
  • Ensure all staff she supervises, is working effectively and efficiently as per their Role & Responsibilities;
  • Immediately report any irregularities (if found) to Project Manager;
  • Ensure all MNCH recording tools/documents e.g. OPD/delivery/PNC/H & HP registers etc, are being maintained and updated on regular basis;
  • Maintain a good working relationship with CAR/DoH/Partner staff and local communities;
  • Assess/analyze situation in case of emergencies such as any disease out-break and immediately report this to Project Manager for a timely action;
  • Ensure all medical equipment is in a good and working condition, and inventory is present and updated on regular basis,
  • Prepare and submit weekly/fortnightly/monthly reports to her supervisor in time without any delays for onwards submission;
  • Conduct weekly staff meeting at BHU to identify any challenges/gaps and sort out them in consultation with BHU Staff; and at the end of meeting submit meeting minutes to Project Manager;
  • Accomplish any other work-related task (s) assigned by her supervisor.

Your Profile :

  • MBBS from a recognized institute;
  • Registered with PMDC and holding a valid registration;
  • Minimum Three (03) years’ relevant work experience with N/INGO, and willing to travel to remote health facilities in project location;
    • Good Knowledge of English, Urdu and Pashto is essential;
    • Skills in facilitation, collaborative team building and conflict management;
    • Ability to work under difficult situations;
    • Demonstrated skills in human resources management;
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills;
    • Familiar with local culture.
  • Should have leadership qualities;
  • Good Interpersonal and Communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently/as a team and demonstrate flexibility, motivation, and maturity;

What we offer:

  • Start Date: 15th April 2023
  • Duty Station: Above mentioned locations
  • Duration of contract: 12 months (extendable 2024)
  • Salary according to qualification and experience
