PAK WOMEN is a non-governmental organization working in areas of HAQ (human rights and good governance), Zindagi (Health), BREKHNA (Education) and KHUSHALI (livelihood) programs. The organization with the financial support of World Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) and technical support of UN Women is implementing a project Economic and Social Empowerment of Afghan Women and Girls in Pakistan to Facilitate Peacebuilding. Under the project, a lawyer council would be established to provide of free legal aid and counseling services, along with legal rights awareness to the displaced Afghan women/ girls, two lawyers (male and female) from each targeted district (Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Haripur, Abbotabad, Mansehra, Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Attock and Lahore) will be identified and oriented about his/her work. Both lawyers would be member of lawyer council comprising of twenty members.

PAK WOMEN call Request for Applications, who has experienced in dealing with Afghan displaced persons/refugees and interested to volunteer their services.  Those who are interested of undertaking similar activities are invited to submit applications through brightsspyre only. Term of Reference (ToR)- Lawyer

Free Legal Aid and Counseling Services along with Legal Right Awareness

POSITION SUMMARY:

The provision of free legal aid and counseling services, along with legal rights awareness by a lawyer’s council for displaced Afghan women/ girls, two lawyers (male and female) from each targeted district will be identified and oriented about his/her work. Both lawyers would be member of lawyer council comprising of twenty members, they would be part of project and would be responsible for providing free legal aid and counseling services along with legal right awareness to the afghan refugees women/girls residing in the targeted districts. It shall be voluntarily work, however minimum fee/charges will be paid against those cases which deal in effective and efficient way. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

General Responsibilities:

  • Planning/coordinating a strategy to reach out to the vulnerable cases seeking legal services.
  • Received referral from the refugee girls and women and documentation of cases
  • Planning and implementing of legal rights awareness sessions
  • Ensuring the implementation of work plans/planned activities on time.
  • Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of the data and organizing as per data protection protocol
  • Maintain good relationships with communities.
  • Networking with key stakeholders for third party referral
  • Record the activities in the form of a report or as per the direction of the manager.
  • Provide support in identification case studies/success stories to capture qualitative outputs of the project.
  • Coordination with the relevant departments within and outside the organization to ensure the smooth implementation of activities.
  • To attend PAK WOMEN monthly virtually progress review meeting.

Key Tasks:

  • Free legal aid and legal counseling clinics conducted by the Lawyers Council
  • Selection of cases of displaced Afghan women/ girls for free legal aid.
  • Two (02) Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) in his respective districts by the lawyers to review existing policies i.e., economic participation of Afghan women/ girls i.e., running of licensed micro business, to avail job, to get micro loan etc. and suggest policy recommendations and amendments.
  • To work jointly with lawyers’ council to draft policy papers basis on the findings of FGDs and policy recommendation.

RREQUIREMENTS AND CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Practicing lawyer and prior experience of similar work.
  • Minimum Qualification (B.Sc/B.A with second Class) preference will be given to Law graduate with Second class.
  • Minimum Experience will be 2 Years in a related field.
  • Ability to work well in lawyers’ council and available for meetings of councils.
  • Ability to network and liaise with the refugee community
  • Demonstrated flexibility, motivation, and maturity
  • Willingness to voluntarily work
