Job Summary:
The research officer will work under the supervision of “Deputy Director - Ophthalmic Community Services” at SIOVS, Hyderabad. S/he will conduct a research study on the correlation between eye health and climate change in Hyderabad/Mitiari region. Based on the research, s/he will prepare a project proposal to mitigate the eye health impacts of climate change on vulnerable communities in Sindh, Pakistan.
Desirable qualification:
A preferable candidate should;
- Have an MPhil degree completed in optometry or social sciences, a PhD in optometry or social sciences or a PhD scholar would be preferable
- Experience of working in eye health and/or climate change sectors
- Have at least two research articles on eye health or climate change published in HEC-approved research journals
- Have at least developed five project proposals for international INGOs and donors
Job description:
- Prepare a study/research proposal on the correlation between eye health and climate change in Sindh, Pakistan
- Conduct a literature review on the correlation between eye health and climate change
- Discussions and interviews with relevant technical experts in eye health and climate change
- Collection of primary and secondary data about the identified research variables from relevant organisations (as per research proposal)
- Analyse primary and secondary data using relevant software/methods
- Prepare a comprehensive research report on the correlation between eye health and climate change in the context of Hyderabad/Mitiari
- Based on the study, prepare a 3-5 years project proposal to mitigate the eye health impacts of climate change on vulnerable communities in Sindh, Pakistan.
Deliverables:
- A research proposal as per the prescribed template
- A literature review of 15-20 pages on the correlation between eye health and climate change
- Minutes of the meetings/key notes of discussions and interviews with eye health and climate change experts
- The research paper/report/study on the correlation between eye health and climate change in the context of Hyderabad/Mitiari
- Project proposal to mitigate the eye health impacts of climate change on vulnerable communities in Sindh, Pakistan (as per the template of SIOVS)
