Overview:

Jhpiego, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University, USA seeks an Advocacy Officer for improving access to FP through the scale-up and use of DMPA-SC, including DMPA-SC self-injection (DMPA-SC SI) as part of a comprehensive contraceptive method mix in Pakistan.  

The position holder is responsible to execute program activities through regular coordination with internal and external team players and support Advocacy Advisor in development of effective advocacy messages and materials on Family planning and DMPA SC at the provincial level under BMGF funded implementation research and advocacy grants. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop initial advocacy messages and materials aligned with project design and outcomes
  • Contribute in development of advocacy strategy, agenda and plan to promote DMPA SC SI interventions  
  • Track and update progress in policy change as per advocacy plan and highlight trends and opportunities for policy change.
  • Support in identification of key stakeholders and update as per stakeholders’ power mapping tools on regular basis
  • Develop and strengthen coordination and relationship with key stakeholders at national and provincial level 
  • Support in development of sub groups at national and provincial levels
  • Document meeting minutes and events reports for both internal and external forums
  • Update project workplans and submit monthly reports to supervisor and other relevant team members
  • Support Communications Specialist in development of program briefs, advocacy messages, reports and communications material like visual material as well as multimedia advocacy products  
  • Support in development of case studies and success stories to share and present in different national and global forums
  • Support in maintaining photobank of project activities along with consent forms as per organization policy
  • Maintains coordination and supports the program team in building and maintaining coordination with relevant public sector departments and partners for the smooth execution of interventions in the provinces 
  • Support in documentation of best practices and learnings from BMGF research project. 
  • Organize meetings, events and training workshops in consultation of internal and external team players  
  • Develop terms of references and initiate recruitment process for consultancies
  • Make conscious efforts to stay current and develop technical knowledge for cross learning and sharing
  • Desk review and sharing of relevant updates from government and private sector partners
  • Conduct field visits as and when required
  • Undertake other assignments as per project requirements

Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • Graduate in social sciences or equivalent, post-graduate level – Masters in public health, Health Policy or equivalent will be preferable
  • 5+ years’ experience related to Maternal Neonatal and Child Health/Family planning
  • Relevant advocacy experience on MNCH/FP advocacy issues and contribution to the development and implementation of advocacy strategies
  • Good knowledge and understanding of a range of advocacy techniques 
  • Good written communication skills with ability to tailor as per audience needs
  • Knowledge and experience of policy research and experience of writing policy reports and briefs would be preferable  
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, appropriate for mid to high-level external representation  
  • Experience of effective teamwork and excellent inter-personal communication skills 
  • Experience of coalition building and working with public and development sector actors to deliver change 
  • Fluency in spoken and written English 
  • An understanding of MNCH policies, practices would be desirable  
  • Good contacts with the MNCH, FP stakeholders both in public and private sectors at national and provincial levels.
  • Covid vaccination certificate would be desirable as per government protocols
