ROLE PURPOSE:

The Psychologist(Psychosocial Support worker) is a field-based position and responsible for directly engage with communities, parents, caregivers, children, and service providers to establish an effective response. S/he will be responsible for providing PFA, individual and group counseling sessions. S/he will be responsible for follow-up with individual patient plans, including referrals when needed.

To ensure children harmed or at risk of being harmed are identified and receive individual case management support by conducting documentation, assessments, action plans, direct service provision, referrals and follow ups for an assigned case load of children.  S/He will support training of caregivers, parents and frontline workers as required, project monitoring, supervision, report writing, ensuring that project meets stated goals and reporting requirements.

Role Dimensions:

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY : 

  • Lead the implementation of MHPSS related activities in the target areas /health Facilties of district.
  • Ensure supplies of technical guidelines/protocols/tools in all health facilities.
  • Promote awareness among the caregivers / parents around key child protection and mental health issues their monitoring and referral/case management processes.
  • Conduct individual and group counselling sessions.
  • Ensure appropriate case management for children including survivors or children at risk.
  •  Responsible for making ‘Best Interest Principle’ the center of all interventions.
  •  Ensure mapping of CP, GBV and MHPSS service providers including government departments and civil society organizations to support PM H&N sindh & PM CP&CRG in establishing district-based referral mechanism.
  • Support in identification of capacity gaps and capacity building needs of field staff and frontline workers through comprehensive training need assessments, and support implementation of capacity building plans
  • Contribute to the documentation and communication of learning within the organization and seek, where possible, to share that learning with key stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the weekly, Monthly and quarterly  MHPSS statistic reports.
  • Contribute to the IEC material development and dissemination of referral pathway
  • Ensure the writing and compilation of awareness raising session and training reports and submit it to Program Manger Health & Nutrition-Sindh and PM CP&CRG.

QUALIFICATIONS 

 Master’s degree Psychology and social work or related discipline.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • 5 years of experience in MHPSS programs & Child protection case management, preferably in humanitarian settings
  • Trained in PFA, community-based mental health training material as well as previous training experience to multi-cultural groups.
  • Previous experience of working in role with a humanitarian organization in a development and in a natural / human induced emergency context
  • Awareness and knowledge of CP, MHPSS and GBV issues in general and their relevance to the humanitarian emergency and post-conflict recovery setting.
  • Experience in program coordination and community awareness raising program
  • Ability and willingness to be flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure contexts, including flexibility to work with incoming emergency response teams.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team in a rural clinical environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and ethical guidelines governing the practice of psychology.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards in the provision of mental health services.
  • Proficient in speaking and written English and well versed in local Sindhi languages.
