Position:                         Climate Change Adaptation Expert

Contract Duration:          One Year

 Primary Roles:

  1. Develop comprehensive climate adaptation strategies that align with CESVI’s objectives and local community needs.
  2. Design and implement projects that address specific climate risks and vulnerabilities.
  3. To manage a local NGO partner-implemented climate change adaptation component within a larger consortium project, with CESVI as one of the consortium partners.
  4.  The project focuses on enhancing the climate resilience of vulnerable households in KP through an integrated approach encompassing livelihood, food security, agriculture, & disaster risk reduction.
  5. Coordinating and managing the CCA portfolio between CESVI, consortium lead, consortium partners, implementing partners, and major stakeholders.Providing technical support to the implementing partner during the project implementation.
  6. Frequent travel within the target districts in KP province and other parts of the country, including extended field trips.

Responsibilities:

  1. Effective ground-level project implementation, specifically in the technical and sectoral aspects of climate change adaptation. Close day-to-day coordination with local NGO partners and other stakeholders.
  2. Overseeing planning, implementation, and closing of projects/interventions, ensuring timely and effective communication and technical support.
  3. Managing stakeholder relationships, risks, and project communication.

 Core Areas of Responsibilities

Technical Inputs:

  1. Providing strategic direction and technical leadership in a comprehensive climate change adaptation in Agriculture and Livelihood project.
  2. Collaborating with partners and the CESVI team to provide technical support in climate-smart agriculture interventions.
  3. Frequent field visits for program support and assistance to partner field teams.
  4. Assisting in strategic direction, quality program design, implementation, and accountability.
  5. Ensuring project quality, effectiveness, and adherence to humanitarian and technical standards, donor requirements, and CESVI's mission.
  6. Providing technical guidance in developing and implementing Early Warning Systems and Anticipatory Actions to mitigate climate risks.
  7. Steering CCA-related interventions that enhance resilience, including watershed management strategies and integrated pest management.
  8. Lead the design and implementation of climate adaptation projects, ensuring alignment with CESVI’s mission and goals.

 Management:

  1. Overseeing project management, including financial, stakeholder, and quality management.
  2. Ensuring adherence to project planning, budgets, partnership agreements, and compliance with donor guidelines.
  3. Collaborating with Finance, MEAL, and Logistics teams for budget analysis, project monitoring, and procurement processes.
  4. Managing project teams, including coordinators and Finance, logistics, and MEAL colleagues.

Compliance:

  1. Preparing and reviewing project reports, ensuring quality assurance, and compliance with donor and CESVI standards.
  2. Ensuring compliance with consortium and partner agreements.

 Coordination:

  • Coordinating with external stakeholders and project teams to achieve grant objectives and compliance.
  • Representing the team at meetings and conferences, providing updates and critical analyses.

Capacity Building and Training:

  1. Build the capacity of CESVI staff, local partners, and community members through targeted training sessions and workshops.
  2. Develop educational materials and resources to promote awareness and understanding of climate adaptation practices.

Partnerships:

  1. Facilitating capacity building for both CESVI and partner staff.
  2. Developing and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders, including government actors and NGOs.
  3. Managing partnerships internally and externally.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Undertaking additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  2. Providing technical assistance or support upon request.
  3. Supporting field visits, hosting events, and conducting policy research.
  4. Engaging stakeholders for climate change adaptation strategy integration.

 Knowledge and Qualification:

  1. University degree in Environmental Science, Climate Studies, Environmental Policy, or a related field.
  2. Min 5  years of professional experience in relevant sectors, with substantial experience in project management and technical expertise in climate change interventions.
  3. Experience working with partnership approaches.
  4. Fluent in English (mandatory) and Pashto (desirable).
