Human Appeal is implementing WFP nutrition activities under Benazir Nashonuma Programme (BNP) in district Qamber ShahdadKot to improve the nutritional status of adolescent girls in the targeted population of adolescent girls through provision of SNF and nutrition awareness activities linked with conditional cash assistance.

Position Summary:

The Project Officer- Nutrition will ensure district level implementation of WFP nutrition activities at the district level. The position will provide technical support to field staff, conduct supportive monitoring visits, facilitation to team, and ensure smooth implementation nutrition outreach activities under the supervision of Projects Coordinator-WFP. The role will focus on providing input for all project activities at the district including planning, supervision, capacity building, behavior change, and coordination & reporting.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Map and identify the areas for implementation of the mobile teams and the cluster for nutrition outreach activities.
  • Supervise the planning and operationalization of nutrition activities.
  • Support the social mobilizers for identification and formation of village resilient committees, teams and clubs.
  • Identification of appropriate space and establishment of IYCF corner.
  • Work closely with DoH Health staffs and PPHI to avoid duplication of the services and ensure appropriate referrals.
  • On job trainings of IYCF Promoters, Social Mobilizers and relevant outreach staff in screening, assessment, admission, management, discharge and transfer to and from the community or other source, as per predefined guidelines.
  • Participate in the capacity building of village resilient committees on project activities.
  • Conduct routine monitoring visits to the mobile sites and village resilient committees within the district and ensure smooth functioning.
  • Ensure adequate availability of all medical and therapeutic food supplies and ensure stock is pre-positioned as planned by discussing with project team and logistics.
  • Follow-up of stock request and consumption.
  • Conduct routine monitoring visits to the mobile sites, outreach within the district, and ensure that supply chain is maintained.
  • Ensure proper documentation and reporting of the stock distributed through Outreach activities.
  • Ensure continuous supervision and technical support to the field teams and activities.
  • Coordinate with logistics to ensure proper stock prepositioning, management and appropriate storage.
  • Establish good Relationship with the Taluka and UC authorities and Community leaders
  • Establish a network with the other actors in the working area (I/NGOs and DoH)
  • Establish linked and meetings with the Community leaders and different group existing in the working area.
  • Establish a good understanding of the program within the community.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Masters in social sciences, management sciences, nutrition, community health or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience with at least 1 year of experience on Health or Nutrition interventions at the field level.
  • Good level of spoken and written Sindhi and local languages.
  • Excellent behavior change communication and counselling skills.
  • Excellent skills in organizing workflow, capacity to follow protocols and take own initiative.
  • Excellent ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work in an environment where there are physical discomforts associated with change in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust or dirt.

              Skills and Proficiencies:

  • Ability and willingness to autonomously travel to duty site/ health facility and villages when required.
  • Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions like long distance walking to work/distribution sites
  • Excellent spoken and written local language /Urdu and English language skills
  • Good computer skills – ability to write weekly and monthly reports and data analysis.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skill
  • Experience in closely coordinating  with DOH and Tehsil/District HQ Hospitals and at health facility level is advantageous
  • Previous experience working in clinical setting/CMAM is an asset
