CARE is a leading global humanitarian and development organization. Since its establishment in 2005, CARE Pakistan (CP) has been responding to major disasters and undertaking an array of development projects. CP works through its local partners and a range of stakeholders for development, as well as emergency response-related interventions, which makes collaboration a key component of its work, across the country. Health and education, with a particular focus on women, are some of CARE’s core identified program areas in Pakistan, as part of its Long-Range Strategic Plan. CARE Pakistan is going to implement a project, “Improved Nutrition Status of Mothers and Children” in district Sujawal, Sindh, to sustainably address malnutrition and its immediate, underlying, and basic contributing factors, through integrated (Nutrition, WASH, and Education) interventions in the project area.

Job Summary

CARE Pakistan requires the services of a Community Mobilizer. The incumbent will coordinate Village Development Committees (VDCs), and engage, mentor, and facilitate the communities for the organization and establishment of village development Committees VDCs, Self Help Groups, School-based Children Clubs and Parent Teacher Committees, and other Project Support Community-based Structures under the “Improved Nutrition Status of Mothers and Children”. The Community Mobilizer is a field-based position responsible for directly engaging with communities, children, government departments, and Civil Society Organizations to establish an effective response. Key of the tasks for the position holder may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Job Responsibilities and Tasks

1- Planning and Coordination (35% of time)
  • Develop the monthly work plan and share it with the line manager.
  • Track defaulters and absentees, reporting field-level issues.
  • Coordinate with service provider teams.
  • Meet with VDC members, Self Help Groups, and other structures for feedback and coordination.
  • Disseminate updates and information within the team and community.

2- Field Operations and Data Management (30% of time)

  • Verify anthropometric measurements of target beneficiaries.
  • Ensure proper functioning and usage of anthropometric equipment.
  • Prepare and share field-level data for compilation and submission.
  • Use Nutrition Information System and reporting formats for managing beneficiary databases.
  • Keep records of the project in both hard and soft formats.

3- Community Engagement and Capacity Building (30% of time)

  • Deliver Social Behaviour Change Communication sessions and nutrition messages during field visits.
  • Mobilize communities for early detection of malnourished individuals.
  • Engage community members in project-related activities.
  • Conduct capacity building sessions for teammates, community structures, and parents.
  • Plan and participate in national/international awareness campaigns and events

4- Other responsibilities as assigned (5% of time)

  • Any other tasks or responsibilities based on organizational and programming needs as assigned by the Line Manager.

A) Qualifications (Know How)

Required

Bachelor's degree in social sciences.

Desired

Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, BS-Nursing, LHV or MidWife (With Bachelors). 

B) Experience/ Technical Skills 

  • A minimum of 3-4 years of professional experience as a Nutrition Assistant/Team Leader.
  • Operational experience in targeted locations in the Previous experience working on integrated projects of WASH, Education, and Nutrition.
  • Knowledge of Village Development Committee/Self Help Groups/Clubs/Volunteer Community-based structures, methodology and operations.
  • Working with multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Experience of working with donor-funded projects, INGOs will be preferred.
  • Good understanding of basic concepts of the CMAM & IYCF and its approaches
  • Understanding of approaches to WASH, and Education (Formal and Non-Formal) 
  • Understanding of basic formulas and references of Caseload Calculations
  • Flexibility to work in a diverse multicultural team with respect for local culture and norms.
  • Ability and experience of coordinating with public departments, community representatives, and union council-level stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Flexible attitude towards receiving feedback from the team, stakeholders, and community.
  • Knowledge of issues relating to community involvement and empowerment.

C) Location

This position will be based in Makli office with the field area in Sujawal District.
