General Position Summary

The Project Officer-Protection has overall responsibility for day-to-day implementation of project related protection activities in identified boy’s schools and implements sports activities at school level. The Project Officer will work closely with project management team & support staff (including finance, administration and program) in organization to ensure that protection component activities including sports activities enhance protection awareness. He/she will also supervise the community awareness sessions both in Afghan and host communities and will make sure that are implemented according to schedule, budget and required quality.

Essential Job Function:

  • The Project Officer is responsible to assist the Project Manager, for implementing Protection component of Project at 19 Pakistani public boy’s schools of Quetta district that will and provide Protection awareness to refugee and host community students.
  • Select Protection Focal persons according to selection criteria for training, protection sessions and reporting protection incidents.
  • Arrange 2 day basic or refresher training for nominated school’ teachers on child protection and referral mechanism in collaboration with education department and PITE
  • Ensure implementation of Protection Policy in Schools and train school principals, teachers, and students on protection policy
  • Ensure dissemination of service provider directories in target project schools and strengthen referral mechanism in coordination with key stakeholders of project for identified protection related cases
  • Ensure documentation of identified referral cases as per service provider’s directory in 19 boys’ schools and share feedback with Project Manager on monthly basis.
  • Monthly monitoring visits of 19 Pakistani public boy’s schools in Quetta district and provide feedback to Project Manager and MEL
  • Conduct monitoring visits to schools for teachers and students’ knowledge and awareness on key protection issues and fill checklists regularly in both hard and soft form.
  • Responsible for supporting and taking data of MHPSS sessions, child protection sessions and sharing the required MoVs with MEL team regularly on prescribed template.
  • Preparing event reports, training reports, monthly progress reports of Protection sessions, success stories on quarterly basis and submit to MEL for review and record.
  • Maintain and validate protection and MHPSS sessions data on monthly basis from school registers
  • Prepare work plans on monthly basis for project activities and procurement plan for distribution of protection related materials or service providers directory for 19 boy’s schools.
  • Conduct though safeguarding leads and youth leaders; protection awareness sessions with students of 8-18 years with 19 boy’s schools’ Pakistani schools
  • Coordinate regularly with 19 selected schools’ Principals, protection Focal persons, Afghan Consulate, UNHCR and Education Department of Balochistan for smooth implementation of Protection related activities as per work plan.
  • Ensure that objectives and indicators as outlined in the grant agreement are met in time.
  • Actively coordinate with MEL to ensure that appropriate monitoring and impact assessment mechanisms and tools are being implemented within Protection component.
  • Responsible for maintaining 19 boy’s schools’ documents as per donor requirement and share attendance and students’ data with MEL.
  • Provide support to MEL in base line, mid line, end line surveys and assessments
  • Follow all SOPs on Safety and Security while conducting the activities in the assigned areas.
  • Development of IOP, DIP and submission of Monthly Progress Report
  • Attend training sessions and meetings with other members of the project as required. 
  • In charge of preparing, in collaboration with the Project Manager the specific Work Plans of Community-based Protection Approach, and assuring its timely accomplishment
  • In charge of the proper collection, handling, archiving of the data and documentation including providing the analysis and support for all monitoring steps and elaboration of the related indicators.
  • Systematize and elaborate synergies between the data collection methodologies and the protection database.
  • Conduct systematic coaching for the staff to mainstream the Protection Approach, and improve collection, management and systematization of related data.
  • Responsible for submitting reports in a timely manner, of his own supervised activities according to the organization existing reporting procedures.

Knowledge and Experience:

A Master's degree in Social Science, International Development, or a related field is required, along with a minimum of 3 years of experience in education/protection programs, specifically within the NGO sector. The candidate should demonstrate in-depth knowledge of protection principles, human rights, and international humanitarian law. A strong understanding of gender-sensitive and child protection issues is essential. The ability to work in challenging environments and handle sensitive information discreetly are key qualifications for this role.

Track record of maintaining liaison with governmental and non-governmental partners. Proficiency in written and spoken English. Fluency in local languages will be an asset. Demonstrated understanding of complex emergencies, related security concerns and appropriate responses with experience in insecure environments. Demonstrated attention to detail, following procedures, meeting deadlines and working and problem-solving independently and cooperatively. Effective verbal and written communication and experience of Microsoft Office applications.
