Job Summary:

The Business Development / Client Service Director will be responsible for leading organizational growth by identifying, developing, and managing strategic relationships across the Public, Private, and Development sectors. The role focuses on client acquisition, partnership development, revenue generation, and client servicing while ensuring long-term sustainability and brand positioning. The job holder will oversee business development strategies, manage key accounts, and coordinate internally to ensure high-quality service delivery aligned with organizational objectives.

Responsibilities:

1. Business Development & Strategic Planning:

Develop and implement comprehensive business development strategies to expand organizational presence across public, private, and development sectors.
Identify new market opportunities, funding streams, and strategic partnerships.
Prepare and execute business plans, proposals, bids, and presentations in line with organizational goals.
Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and emerging opportunities.
Ensure achievement of revenue targets and growth objectives.

2. Client Relations & Account Management:

Establish and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key clients, donors, partners, and stakeholders.
Serve as the primary point of contact for major accounts and strategic partners.
Ensure high-quality client servicing and timely resolution of client concerns.
Coordinate meetings, presentations, and negotiations with clients and partners.
Strengthen client retention through proactive engagement and value-added services.

3. Networking and Partnerships:

Build and expand professional networks within government departments, corporate entities, NGOs, INGOs, and development partners.
Represent the organization at industry forums, conferences, and networking events.
Facilitate strategic alliances and collaborations to enhance organizational visibility and impact.
Promote organizational services, capabilities, and achievements to diverse stakeholders.

4. Financial & Revenue Support:

Contribute to revenue forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning related to business development activities.
Support pricing strategies, contract negotiations, and financial proposals.
Monitor client billing, payments, and financial compliance in coordination with finance teams.
Ensure cost-effective utilization of resources while maximizing returns.

5. Administrative & Operational Support:

Maintain accurate records of clients, contracts, proposals, and business development activities.
Ensure proper documentation, reporting, and compliance with organizational policies.
Coordinate internal workflows to support business development operations.

6. Sector-Level Operations:

Oversee business development and client service operations across assigned sectors and regions.
Ensure alignment of services with sector-specific requirements and policies.
Support project initiation and handover to implementation teams.

7. Reporting and Documentation:

Prepare periodic business development reports highlighting achievements, pipeline status, challenges, and opportunities.
Maintain updated databases of prospects, clients, and partnerships.
Provide regular updates to senior management on growth performance and strategic initiatives.

8. Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Work closely with project, finance, communications, and operations teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
Coordinate with external consultants, vendors, and partners as required.
Ensure alignment between client expectations and internal execution capacity.

9. Problem-Solving & Risk Management:

Identify potential business, client, or operational risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
Address contractual, service delivery, or partnership challenges proactively.
Support conflict resolution and corrective actions when required.

10. Resource Management & Leadership:

Manage assigned business development teams and support staff.
Ensure optimal use of human and financial resources.
Provide mentorship, guidance, and performance oversight to team members.

Education & Knowledge:

Master’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field but experience will be preferred

Work Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in business development, client servicing, partnerships, or sales—preferably within public sector projects, corporate engagement, or development sector organizations.
Demonstrated experience in managing high-value clients and strategic partnerships.

Functional Competencies / Skills:

Strong understanding of business development strategies, client servicing, and revenue generation models.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Proven ability to manage multiple clients, proposals, and partnerships simultaneously.
Experience in proposal writing, contract management, and stakeholder engagement.
Strong leadership, organizational, and time-management skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
