HANDS requires following staff for HANDS DO’s Dadu and Larkana


Position: Optometrists
No. of Positions: 03 Female (01 for Dadu & 02 for Larkan)
Place of Posting: Dadu / Larkana / SIOVS – Hyderabad
Age Limit: 25-45 Years
Reporting Line: Project Manager SIOVS
Qualification: Optometrist
Experience: At least 5 years of clinical experience

Job description of Optometrist:

World Council of Optometry (WCO) defines optometrist as follows:
“Optometrists are the primary healthcare practitioners of the eye and visual system who provide comprehensive eye and vision care, which includes refraction and dispensing, detection/diagnosis and referral of diseases in the eye, and the rehabilitation of conditions of the visual system.”
In the light of the above, the following job description is recommended for Pakistan.
1. Can perform all the functions of level-2 (Vision testing, refraction, cycloplegics)
2. Can perform the additional skills acquired:
• Advanced refraction including refraction of all children
• Low vision assessment
• Prescribe hard and soft contact lens
• Carry out advance visual function assessment
• Detection/diagnosis and referral of diseases of eye
3. Engage in operational and field research;
4. manage record keeping, analysis, and reporting;
5. Participate and lead on various eye campaigns.

In Community based eye health programme:

• Expert in using slit lamp and using Applanation tonometer.
• To behave like an excellent team player.
• Accountable to Medical superintendent @ RHC ,THQ, DHQ ( if posted)
• To work in close collaboration of Social organizer to develop strict discipline in the team work.
• To develop liase with IT manager based at SIOVS
• Training of the LHVS and other staff in vision testing and explaining six healthy signs of the eye in the project area. ( if required)
• Maintaining and collection of the Data Like collection, entering and analysis (if needed) .
• To be the part of school screening/ community screening during the project life cycle.
