Scope of Work – Hydrologist
Project Background
As part of the post 2022 floods recovery in Sindh, Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF), is leading a resilient housing reconstruction program for about 2.1 million households and carries a vision to systematically assess various flood affected settlements in Sindh to develop Climate Resilient Settlement Development Plan (CRSDP) with the technical support of CRS. This process is crucial for setting up, upgrading, and sustaining essential community infrastructures to improve access to basic public services.
Assessment teams will work extensively in the communities for the collection of social, economic and technical data from households and other stakeholders. In this context, the role of hydrologist is critical in ensuring the designs of flood resilient infrastructures, directly contributing to the success of this transformative initiative.
Purpose of the Position
The hydrologist will assess the vulnerability of targeted areas to riverine and flash floods through flood modeling. The focus will lie in implementing preventive measures to protect these areas, thereby reducing the risks associated with future flood occurrences, such as the one experienced in 2022. This position will be responsible to perform the tasks outlined below to conduct vulnerability analysis, identify DRR measures and explore rainwater harvesting solutions, all aimed at achieving the project's objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- To assess vulnerability of the area to riverine and flash floods and map it.
- Identify various zones in the area according to their varied vulnerability to floods by mapping them.
- Identify mitigative measures to save the existing settlements from riverine and flash floods.
- To carryout Vulnerability zones for each settlement.
- Development of contour map for the region.
- Explore the rainwater harvesting solutions.
- Application of modern technology for vulnerability assessment of the settlements to floods for identifying mitigative measures.
Working Conditions
- Work may require long hours in remote areas under challenging conditions.
- Adherence to security and safety protocols as per organizational guidelines.
Payment Terms:
- The contract is deliverable based but should allow for some light additional support as requested by the SHRRP/SPHF Program Team Leader.
- This position may requires some level of field travel.
Reporting relationships
The Hydrologist will be in contact to Program Manager directly and will collaborate closely with Cluster Managers, Engineers and other relevant field staff
Duration of Contract:
Contract for the Hydrologist will be a contingency contract and this is a short term assignment of upto 6 months.
