The Zakat Foundation of America (ZFA) is a US-based humanitarian and development organization committed to alleviating poverty and ensuring access to basic human rights through sustainable, community-centered interventions. In line with its mission to expand its health services in underserved regions of Pakistan, ZFA is seeking qualified and experienced implementing partners to conduct eye camps in different parts of pakistan.

The project:

The Community Eye Care Project aims to reduce avoidable blindness and vision impairment among poor and marginalized populations in backward and underserved areas of Pakistan by providing free access to quality eye health services. Through 10 eye camps, the project will screen approximately 5,000 individuals, provide medicines and prescription glasses to those in need, and conduct around 500 Phaco with IOL surgeries and 50 ECCE IOL surgeries for cataract patients. In addition, IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) materials will be distributed to raise awareness on eye health, prevention of common eye diseases, and the importance of early treatment. Implemented in coordination with district administrations, government health departments, and a qualified service provider, the project will ensure transparency, accountability, and sustainability while bringing life-changing impact to vulnerable communities.

Output 1: Eye Camps Organized and Beneficiaries Screened

  • Conduct 10 eye camps in targeted underserved areas.
  • Screen approximately 5,000 individuals for eye diseases and vision impairments.
  • Provide free medicines to beneficiaries with minor eye ailments.

Output 2: Provision of Prescription Glasses

  • Identify beneficiaries with refractive errors during screening.
  • Provide approximately 2,500 individuals with free prescription glasses.

Output 3: Surgical Interventions Conducted

  • Perform around 500 Phaco with IOL surgeries for cataract patients.
  • Perform approximately 50 ECCE IOL surgeries for patients with more complex conditions.
  • Ensure proper medical care and post-surgical follow-ups for all operated patients.

Output 4: Awareness Raised on Eye Health and Prevention

  • Develop and print IEC materials focusing on prevention of eye diseases and importance of regular check-ups.
  • Distribute IEC materials within targeted communities during and after camps.
  • Mobilize community leaders, volunteers, and local networks to spread awareness.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Organization registered with Government of Pakistan as Not for profit and non-Government organization.
  • The organization has an active board of directors/governors (in the case of local organizations).
  • The organization has a history of activities/projects and community linkages in the district applying for.
  • The organization has previous proven experience of implementation of eye camps projects with institutional donors.
  • The organization has at least three years of externally audited accounts. 
  • Any employee, director or a person having an association with organization or organization itself is not involved in any anti-state activity at any level;
  • The organization will acquire NOC for project implementation in the targeted area from concerned government authorities regarding proposed project implementation.

Organizations that cannot apply:

  • Individuals/unregistered groups/consultants/vendors.
  • Businesses/for-profit organizations. 
  • Organizations involved in any anti-state activity. 
  • Organizations having a political or religious affiliation. 

 

Proposal Requirements

Interested organizations are invited to submit a full proposal that includes:

  1. Organizational profile and relevant past project experience (if not previously submitted).
  2. Technical approach and implementation plan, including proposed districts for intervention.
  3. Monitoring and evaluation framework.
  4. Budget breakdown and justification.
  5. Timeline of key activities.
  6. Legal registration documents and organizational policies (e.g., safeguarding, procurement, anti-corruption)
