Vacancy: Liaison & Coordination Officer (Karachi).              

Based in Islamabad, the Alternate Development Services Pvt. Ltd (ADS) is a research and capacity development firm. It is registered with Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). ADS possesses elaborate experience of project implementation and assessment in the areas of alternate and renewable energy transition, and addressing the effects of global warming, climate change and environmental conservation on society, economy, businesses and corporate intervention. Monitoring the impact of international financial institutions on climate change and carbon emission is one of its areas of operation.  ADS stands out for its expertise in the social and development sector, encompassing areas such as governance, education, human rights and disaster risk reduction (DRR).

ADS envisions generating enabling environment for informed policy positions, nature-friendly and people- centered development as well as energy consumption and transition. It is rapidly emerging as a known entity striving to persuade, facilitate and monitor Pakistan’s corporate and industrial sector in transitioning from fossil-fuel-powered energy to renewable and sustainable sources of energy such as wind, solar, bio and other green and clean sources of energy. 

The Alternate and Renewable Energy Campaign (AREC-Pakistan) is ADS’s ensuing campaign for transforming the corporate sectors’ sources of energy towards the clean and green ones. ADS strives to encourage the corporate sector (Textile & Leather Industry, Food and Beverage, and Sports Sector) to switch to 100% Renewable Energy (RE) by transforming their high carbon-emitting sources of power to alternate and cleaner sources of energy. Precisely, it is facilitating the government as well as private sector to achieve net-zero target by 2050 as committed by the Paris Climate Agreement (2016) under UNFCCC.  

ADS is looking for an adequately qualified ‘Liaison & Coordination Officer (Karachi based)’ to assume the following responsibilities:

The Liaison and Coordination Officer will act as a liaison, representing ADS in Karachi, and collaborating with other civil society organizations (CSOs), sectors say industrial stakeholders (e.g., chambers of commerce, textile, sports, and leather industry associations and corporates), academia, think tanks to align national priorities and civil society priorities and initiatives: His/her responsibilities, include but are not limited to: 

1. Actively collaborate and engage with civil society organizations (CSOs) focusing on climate action and the transition to renewable energy.

2. Establish and maintain engagement with government departments, the Chamber of Commerce, sector associations (e.g., textile, leather, sports), and others.

3. Support ADS’s research activities in Karachi and other relevant districts.

4. Assist ADS’s team in organizing and conducting workshops, seminars, press conferences, and other related events in Karachi.

5. Provide logistical and operational support to ADS’s team during their visits to Karachi.

6. Coordinate media and social media efforts, including interactions with relevant stakeholders, and facilitate ADS’s initiatives such as podcasts, radio, or TV programs on various topics.

7. Promote the publication of op-eds, opinion pieces, and coverage of ADS’s public events and activities in Sindhi and/or Urdu media to support the organization's objectives.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

We are seeking a highly qualified individual with a master's degree or above in disciplines such as Social Sciences, Journalism, Economics, Climate/Environmental Sciences or a relevant degree and experience.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent research and writing skills, demonstrating a proactive and self- motivated approach. This role entails independently spearheading the above mentioned tasks. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in taking initiatives, ensuring the effective leadership and execution of the relevant ADS projects in Karachi.
