Social Mobilizers for Engaging Men in Child Health and Immunization project

 

OCSD is a non-profit, non-governmental organization working for the most disadvantaged communities in Balochistan since 2004 gaining vast experience of working with Afghan Refugees and Hosting as well as Local communities on Health, Education, Livelihood Improvement and Emergency/Relief. Presently, OCSD is implementing the research project Engaging Men in Child Health and Immunization in Quetta. By implementing the project, organisation will improve immunization coverage for children under one year of age while strengthening gender equity within the household. The project has been funded by Gavi and implemented by Jhpiego. The project will work for transformation of gender norms and promote equity by involving men individually and with their partners in the household as caregivers. The main idea is to transform conventional approaches about perceived responsibilities of men and women in caregiving for children. As a result, men, women, and couples will contribute towards increased gender equity in child health and immunization.

 

The project will achieve the following specific objectives:

  1. Examine the role of household and community-level gender transformative engagement of caregivers, as couples or individually, and community leaders, to shift household gender roles and power dynamics in Pakistan.
  2. Examine the role of household and community-level gender transformative engagement of caregivers, as couples or individually, and community leaders, to increase immunization coverage for children under 12 months of age in Pakistan.
  3. Assess the feasibility, acceptability, and appropriateness of deploying OCSD project staff to implement gender transformative interventions with caregivers and community leaders on child health and childhood Immunization.

OCSD aims to hire Project Supervisor for execution, Implementation to support the team of social mobilizers ensuring gender equality comfortable mobilization activity within the cultural norms of project area. Competent and motivated individual (M/F) will be recruited as Project Supervisor to undertake the project activities for meeting the said project objectives.

 

Objective and Responsibilities

This position aims to perform the tasks outlined below to ensure efficient team supervision, streamlined project coordination, effective field operations management, and robust quality assurance in achieving the project objectives:

Supervise and provide guidance to field team to ensure adherence to project timelines and quality standards.

  • Conduct regular team meetings to discuss project progress, address challenges, and provide necessary support and resources.
  • Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members based on their skills and expertise.
  • Monitor team performance and provide constructive feedback for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and procedures during field activities.
  • Liaise with management to understand project objectives, requirements, and timelines.
  • Coordinate with data analysts to ensure accurate and timely data collection and reporting.
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders, including government agencies, community leaders, and partner organizations, as required.
  • Maintain effective communication between the field team and project donor.
  • Plan and schedule field visits for mobilization and data collection activities as per project timeline.
  • Address any operational challenges or issues that may arise during field activities promptly.
  • Conduct regular quality checks to ensure the accuracy of field activities and and integrity of data collected in the field.

Deliverables

a)    Attend the orientation / training session prior to the field work.

b)    Compile and submission regular progress reports detailing project activities, achievements, and challenges encountered (on daily basis).

c)    Maintain and submission of accurate records of field observations, data collected, and any incidents or issues encountered during fieldwork.

d)    Submission of all required documentation and reports to management.

e)    Ensure completeness and accuracy of data collected both in soft and hard.

g)    Report any challenges encountered in the field during field activities data collection.

 

Reporting relationships

The Field Supervisor will report and work closely with the management/ focal person who will lead and supervise the project. They will also have working relationships with the MEAL Officer or any other responsible field staff.

 

Required Competencies, Experience and Qualification

 

Personal Qualities

  • Must be reliable and committed to fulfilling assignments with high level of professionalism.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as within a team environment.
  • Ability and willingness to work long hours and sometimes in adverse field conditions.
  • Must be proactive and able to “think on your feet”.
  • Highly punctual, organized, and flexible.
  • Able to follow guidance provided by management.
  • Must be conversant with basic social research ethics and be able to apply them in the field
  • Must show respect and non-judgmental attitude towards respondents’ ideas, cultural values, and traditions.
  • Must always show sober behavior they are required to perform duties.
  • Must be able to assure confidentiality of respondents’ personal information.
  • Able to build rapport with respondents to ensure that they remain motivated and interested in answering questions truthfully.

 

 Education

  • Male or female having master’s degree (or equivalent) in social sciences and/or related field

 

Experience and Requirements

  • At least 3-5 years’ experience of working on advocacy and community mobilization with the reputed organizations
  • Previous experience monitoring, staff management,
  • Experience in mobilization, data collection, validation, sampling and reporting.
  • Have working knowledge of Apps like Kobo/ComCare etc.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
  • Must have in-depth questioning, active listening skills and reporting skills.
  • Must be able to follow and carry out instructions given by management and willing to learn from others’ guidance.
  • Must know local languages
  • Good command on English
  • Excellent Report and Writing Skills
