U.S. Mission Pakistan is seeking applications from qualified individuals for Economic Assistant position in U.S. Consulate General, Karachi.
Basic Function of the Position – The incumbent supports the daily functions of the Economic Section by monitoring daily press reporting and researching topics as directed by Economic Officers and scheduling appointments. Post uses the incumbent's various capabilities to advance efforts to reform and develop the country's economic, financial, and investment sectors through a variety of technical and consultative programs. Incumbent develops post's contacts with representatives of the government and private sector and provides analysis and research to support post's economic reporting. The incumbent drafts spot reports on significant economic events and assists Senior Economic Specialists in preparing analytical reports. Incumbent uses language skills and familiarity with local economy to help strengthen bilateral economic and investment relations between Pakistan and the United States. The incumbent will also support other work in the shared political and economic section, including logistical set up of meetings and events.
Qualification Requirements:
EXPERIENCE: Minimum two (2) years of experience in economic work or analysis is required.
EDUCATION: Completion of College or University Studies (14 years of education) in Economics, International Relations, or Business is required.
Job Knowledge: The incumbent must have strong knowledge of the host country's economic structure and institutions is required. Should be familiar with basic economic, commercial and financial principles. The job holder should be familiar with current events nationally, regionally, and internationally and should be able to develop understanding of USG procedures for programs and reporting requirements. Should have broad knowledge of the host country's economic relations with the region and the United States.
LANGUAGE: Level IV (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing in English and Urdu are required. English language skills will be tested.
Skills And Abilities: Must be computer literate and familiar with standard office software (MS Word, Excel, Outlook). An ability to work with little direct supervision and to carry out projects from inception to completion on their own initiative is required. Must be able to interpret the needs of higher-grade staff members for press and related coverage of current economic developments. An ability to write correct and precise English prose is required. Skills and abilities may be tested.
