Overview

Jhpiego is an international non-profit health organization affiliated with The Johns Hopkins University, USA. For more than 40 years and in over 150 countries, Jhpiego has worked to prevent the needless deaths of women and their families. Jhpiego is dedicated to improving the health of women and families in developing countries. Jhpiego works with national and provincial health departments in strengthening the national laboratory network, Genomic surveillance and TB diagnostic networks of the provinces. This includes the Biosafety, Biosecurity, Lab quality improvement, Instrument calibrations, support to ISO certification and Genomic Surveillance etc.

Responsibilities:

  • The Coordinator will support Jhpiego in maintaining close coordination with national and provincial health departments regarding the project implementation and technical assistance to provincial laboratory network. He/She will be serving as coordination focal point and supporting Jhpiego’s organizational liaison with NIH, PRs & SRs and other C19RM stakeholders in the country. He/She will support (ongoing) C19RM project implementation and monitor both technical and financial progress to support Program Lead. He/She will ensure that project progress is on track as per agreed scope of work, timelines and budget, and address any challenges and bottlenecks through continued coordination with National & Provincial stakeholders, PRs through regular coordination, attending progress review meetings and analysis of available data. He/She will be supporting Program Lead in in-country coordination and Liaising for the project implementation.

The key TOR’s are but not limited to;

  • Establish, manage, and document a coordination mechanism for engagement with various government departments to enhance the capacity of Laboratory network and surveillance system in the country
  • Coordinate and lead the planning, implementation of the laboratory and surveillance related activities in the country under the project
  • Work as focal point of the project under directions of portfolio lead/Project Lead GFTA/GHSA
  • To track and manage the progress of the project as per the scope and timelines
  • To address the challenges and bottlenecks of the project
  • To prepare and share the monthly and quarterly reports on the technical assistance to National and Provincial health departments.
  • Conduct regular coordination meetings (weekly or monthly) with National and Provincial health departments

Qualification and Experience:


  • Bachelor’s or preferably advanced degree field related to Laboratory sciences, and/or master in public health
  • At least 6 to 7 years of work experience with programs focused on working with national and provincial health departments in Laboratory system strengthening projects
  • Proven experience in establishing and managing coordination mechanisms.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good command on MS office
  • Ability to engage with various government departments effectively.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to travel nationally about 20- 30% of time
