Project Context:
WWF-Pakistan is working on various projects for the conservation of freshwater through nature-based solutions. The project titled 'Promoting Water Stewardship and Replenishment among Vulnerable Communities of Karachi,' funded by Reckitt Pakistan, aims to replenish 26,600 m³ of water annually through different initiatives. This project will be implemented using a Collective Action approach by engaging and mobilizing key stakeholders in Karachi, including vulnerable communities, government departments, industries, and academia. The project focuses on improved water management practices, water conservation, awareness, and WASH facilities.
Job Summary:
The coordinator will lead the planning, design, and execution of green infrastructure and water stewardship interventions across multiple project sites in Karachi. The role requires strategic oversight of engineering design, procurement processes, vendor management, and on-ground implementation, ensuring alignment with organizational standards and project objectives.
• Designing and implementation of green infrastructure solutions (e.g., recharge wells, nature-based solutions, wastewater management systems).
• Lead comprehensive technical assessments of project sites, including geographical, hydrological, and geological evaluations to inform intervention design.
• Ensure integration of environmental safeguards, including protection of natural habitats, trees, water bodies, and culturally sensitive sites throughout project lifecycles. • Identify structural and environmental risks at project sites and develop robust mitigation and contingency plans.
• Development of site-specific designs, Bills of Quantities (BoQs), and Terms of Reference (ToRs) for consultants, contractors, and vendors.
• Oversee procurement processes in coordination with internal teams, ensuring transparency, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with WWF-Pakistan policies. • Supervise and guide contractors and field teams during project execution, ensuring adherence to approved designs, timelines, and quality standards.
• Establish and implement monitoring frameworks to track project progress, performance indicators, and engineering quality benchmarks.
• Ensure compliance with WWF-Pakistan’s internal audit, financial, and operational policies, maintaining high standards of due diligence and documentation.
• Development of the concept note of the pilot interventions
• Coordinate with government departments, academia, and private sector partners to acquire the relevant approvals and/or NoCs.
Selection Criteria
- Bachelors or Masters/MPhil in Civil Engineering
- 2-3 years of experience in civil designing related work with a strong knowledge in estimations and designing
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Aptitude for team work and field work
- Excellent English and Urdu Language Skills (reading, writing and speaking skills). - Proficiency in basic computer software, particularly in GIS-RS, AutoCad, Revitt, MS Word, MS Power Point, MS Project and MS Excel;
- Knowledge and understanding of recording meeting minutes;
- Be able to communicate ideas and thoughts in a clear manner;
- Sensitivity to gender and other current social issues in Pakistan;
- Demonstrated advocacy skills
