Job Summary

ACT International is seeking a qualified and experienced Food Safety & Quality Officer (FSQO) for the School Meals Program. The position is responsible for ensuring that all meals prepared, stored, handled, and distributed meet food safety, hygiene, and quality standards in compliance with HACCP principles, organizational SOPs, and donor requirements.

The FSQO will oversee inspections, monitoring, documentation, hygiene compliance, and implementation of corrective actions to ensure safe food production and distribution processes across kitchen and school operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards, HACCP principles, and organizational SOPs.
  • Conduct routine inspections of kitchens, storage areas, packing units, transportation, and school facilities.
  • Monitor hygiene and sanitation practices of kitchen staff, cleaners, and operational teams.
  • Verify food quality, raw materials, storage conditions, cooking processes, and temperature controls.
  • Identify food safety risks and ensure immediate corrective actions to prevent contamination.
  • Maintain food safety records including temperature logs, cleaning records, inspection reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Investigate food safety incidents, complaints, or spoilage issues and recommend corrective measures.
  • Conduct food safety and hygiene awareness sessions for kitchen staff and School Cleaners.
  • Supervise School Cleaners and kitchen sweeping staff regarding attendance, cleaning activities, and hygiene material requirements.
  • Ensure proper waste management, sanitation, and environmental health standards in operational areas.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly food safety and compliance reports for management.

Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition, Microbiology, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3–4 years of relevant experience in food safety, quality assurance, HACCP compliance, or hygiene monitoring.
  • Experience working with NGOs, INGOs, school feeding, hospitality, or food production projects will be preferred.
  • HACCP or food safety certification will be considered an added advantage.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Understanding of HACCP principles and quality assurance systems.
  • Good inspection, reporting, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to identify risks and recommend practical corrective actions.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, especially Excel and Word.
