Purpose 

The Security Officer – KP is responsible for supporting implementation, monitoring, and coordination of safety and security measures across KP operations, including Regional Office, field offices, facilities, staff movements, and programme activities.

 

The role supports operational security management through regular monitoring, coordination, risk awareness, incident reporting, field support, and implementation of organisational security procedures in line with organisational requirements and operational realities.

Key Responsibilities

Security Monitoring & Operational Support

  • Monitor the security situation across KP operational areas and provide regular updates to the Programme Manager – KP and Security Advisor – Head Office.
  • Support implementation of organisational security procedures, protocols, and operational safety measures across KP operations.
  • Conduct regular follow-up regarding field movements, office operations, and staff safety arrangements.
  • Support implementation of access control, visitor management, and basic security arrangements at offices and facilities, where required.

Field Security Coordination

  • Coordinate with field teams regarding movement plans, field visits, travel clearances, and operational security arrangements.
  • Provide security-related guidance and support to staff travelling to field locations.
  • Maintain regular communication with field offices and facilities regarding security-related developments and operational concerns.
  • Support safe implementation of programme activities and field operations in coordination with programme and operations teams.

Security Risk Awareness & Information Sharing

  • Collect, monitor, and share security-related information, alerts, and updates relevant to KP operations.
  • Maintain awareness of local security developments, public disturbances, demonstrations, road conditions, and other operational risks affecting staff safety and operations.
  • Provide timely security updates and advisories to management and relevant staff, as required.

Incident Reporting & Documentation

  • Support reporting and documentation of security incidents, safety concerns, operational risks, and security-related observations.
  • Maintain security records, incident logs, movement records, and related documentation, as required.
  • Immediately report serious incidents, threats, or safety concerns through established reporting channels.

Coordination with Authorities & Stakeholders

  • Support coordination with local administration, law enforcement agencies, security-related stakeholders, and relevant authorities, as guided by management.
  • Facilitate security-related coordination during official visits, events, field activities, and operational movements.

Security Compliance & Staff Awareness

  • Support dissemination and implementation of organisational security procedures and staff safety guidance.
  • Assist in promoting staff awareness regarding safety, movement protocols, emergency procedures, and operational security practices.
  • Support implementation of security-related recommendations and follow-up actions across KP operations.

 

Safeguarding, Confidentiality & Professional Conduct

  • Maintain confidentiality of security-related information, operational details, and staff movement information.
  • Ensure professional conduct and respectful interaction with staff, authorities, and stakeholders at all times.
  • Ensure adherence to organisational policies, including safeguarding, PSEA, confidentiality, and code of conduct requirements.

 

 

Other Duties

  • Perform any other duties related to operational safety, security coordination, monitoring, and support as assigned by the Programme Manager – KP or Security Advisor – Head Office.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Preferably Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, Social Sciences, Management, or a related field. Relevant professional or field experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in safety, security, operations, field coordination, or related roles, preferably within NGO, humanitarian, or operational environments.
  • Strong understanding of field security coordination, operational risk awareness, and staff safety procedures.
  • Experience working in KP operational environments and coordination with field teams is strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication, coordination, documentation, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to respond calmly and professionally in high-pressure situations.
  • Knowledge of local context, operational dynamics, and local languages, including Pashto, is an asset.
