Position summary

The Basic Literacy (Montessori) Teacher creates a nurturing, stimulating classroom environment at the Early Learning Centre in Women Prison Hyderabad. The teacher develops lesson plans that focus on social, physical, intellectual, and emotional skills, assesses children’s needs, maintains records, ensures safety, and instills values like honesty, respect, and kindness. The role requires compassion, adaptability, and sensitivity to the unique prison setting.

Key responsibilities

1. Classroom Management & Environment

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and stimulating classroom where all children feel valued.

  • Ensure classroom supplies and Montessori materials are accessible, organized, and appropriate for the age group.

  • Maintain the sensory garden and other learning resources.

2. Child Observation & Assessment

  • Observe, guide, supervise, and assess children in the classroom environment.

  • Monitor and track student progress, behavior, and achievements.

  • Maintain accurate records and provide regular reports to stakeholders.

3. Lesson Planning & Teaching

  • Develop lesson plans, curricula, and independent learning exercises tailored to each child.

  • Encourage child-directed learning to develop individual interests and skills.

  • Adapt individualized learning plans based on students’ needs, interests, and abilities.

  • Facilitate conflict resolution and mediate classroom conflicts.

4. Relationship Building & Values Instillation

  • Build rapport and trust with students.

  • Model and instill values such as honesty, accountability, understanding, tolerance, respect, love, and kindness.

  • Treat all students with compassion and respect.

5. Administrative & Compliance Duties

  • Update student records and perform administrative tasks as needed.

  • Adhere to education policies and guidelines at all times.

  • Uphold professional boundaries and ethical conduct in the prison setting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Teaching, Education, or related discipline (additional Montessori courses preferred).

  • Experience in a Montessori teaching environment.

  • Strong planning, organizational, observational, communication, and diagnostic skills.

  • Ability to develop individualized learning plans and multitask effectively.

  • Patience, adaptability, compassion, and capacity to work with pre-school/Kindergarten children.
