Job Description
Position Objective:
A non-profit organization project is seeking a Biomedical Engineer. The individual will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, safety, and reliability of advanced diagnostic imaging systems within the organization. This role supports high-quality patient care by installing, maintaining, calibrating, and troubleshooting radiology equipment to minimize downtime and ensure regulatory compliance.
The Biomedical Engineer will conduct preventative maintenance, safety inspections, and timely repairs while upholding industry standards and best practices. Working closely with medical staff and vendors, the role ensures seamless equipment operation, evaluates emerging technologies, and contributes to continuous improvement in imaging quality, operational efficiency, and patient outcomes.
Core Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced radiology equipment, including MRI, CT, X-ray, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, and mammography systems, ensuring optimal functionality.
- Perform preventative maintenance and calibrations to uphold equipment accuracy, reliability, and compliance with manufacturer specifications.
- Diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions efficiently to minimize downtime and support uninterrupted patient care.
- Conduct safety inspections and performance testing in adherence to regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, IEC, and local regulations).
- Assess and recommend new radiology equipment based on cost-effectiveness, performance, and compatibility with existing infrastructure.
- Collaborate with radiologists and technologists to address technical concerns, optimize imaging quality, and enhance workflow efficiency.
- Provide training to medical staff on proper equipment use, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance to extend the lifespan of devices.
- Manage service contracts and vendor relationships to ensure timely maintenance, cost efficiency, and reliable support.
- Investigate and document equipment failures, malfunctions, and safety incidents, implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Stay current with advancements in radiology technology, integrating innovations to improve imaging capabilities and patient outcomes.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance, repairs, performance evaluations, and regulatory compliance for audit readiness and operational transparency.
- Contribute to quality assurance initiatives, helping develop protocols that enhance imaging accuracy, safety, and efficiency.
Educational Requirements and Skills:
- A bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, radiologic technology, or a related field is typically required.
- At least 4 years of experience in biomedical engineering, preferably in hospital settings
- Installation, maintenance, troubleshooting (MRI, CT, X-ray, etc.), calibration, safety inspections, and regulatory compliance.
- Diagnosing malfunctions, root cause analysis, and performance testing.
- Collaborating with medical staff, training users, and explaining technical concepts.
- Staying updated on new technologies and regulatory changes.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
