The Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan (AKHS, P) is seeking an experienced Lady Health Visitor reporting to the AM Community Health.

Summary of the Role

LHV provides comprehensive maternal, newborn, child, adult, and elderly healthcare services at AKHSP health facilities and outreach sites. The position assesses patients’ health needs, provides appropriate nursing and preventive care, identifies health risks and early signs of illness, provides health education and counselling, and refers patients to relevant healthcare providers or facilities when required. The LHV also supports community health activities, maintains accurate patient records, and ensures compliance with applicable healthcare standards and protocols.

Key Responsibilities

• Conducts routine health assessments and check-ups for pregnant women, newborns, children, adults, and elderly clients.
• Provides appropriate nursing and patient care services in accordance with approved clinical protocols and physician instructions.
• Conducts antenatal, postnatal, newborn, child, and elderly care assessments and identifies health conditions requiring further management.
• Monitors children’s growth and development and assesses immunization status.
• Administers vaccinations to children in accordance with approved vaccination protocols.
• Identifies early signs of illness, malnutrition, developmental delays, and other health risks and refers clients to appropriate healthcare providers or facilities.
• Provides counselling and health education to mothers, pregnant women, and families on prenatal care, breastfeeding, nutrition, hygiene, healthy living, disease prevention, and family planning.
• Conduct home visits, where required, to monitor the health and well-being of mothers and children and facilitate access to appropriate healthcare and support services.
• Provides elderly care screening at health centres and raises awareness regarding senior citizen health in the community.
• Provides emotional and psychosocial support to mothers, including those experiencing postpartum concerns, and refers cases requiring specialized support.
• Conduct awareness sessions, health talks, and community campaigns on maternal, child, family, and community health.
• Maintains accurate patient records, nursing notes, family folders, vaccination records, and other required documentation through HMIS and prescribed paper-based systems.
• Prepare reports on the health status of individuals and families and highlights areas requiring attention or follow-up.
• Monitors patients’ vital signs and pain levels during initial and follow-up visits and reports significant findings to the physician.
• Perform clinical procedures, including infusion, nebulization, and other procedures as advised by the physician.
• Performs point-of-care testing, including hemoglobin and cholesterol testing, as per approved procedures.
• Works closely with medical doctors in assessing and managing patients visiting the centre.
• Provides healthcare services during morning, evening, and outreach hours assigned by the manager.
• Maintains adequate stocks of medical supplies and documents stock status and other quality indicators on prescribed checklists.
• Ensure that medical equipment and other facility resources remain functional and report any malfunction or maintenance requirement promptly.
• Maintains records of preventive and periodic maintenance (PPM) for equipment placed at the centre.
• Ensures that centre equipment, vaccines, infrastructure, and related services comply with applicable regulatory and licensing requirements.
• Conducts routine checks of medical equipment and reports/respond appropriately to accidental injuries, incidents, and safety concerns within the clinic.
• Supports the training and supervision of novice staff in outpatient and healthcare settings.
• Learn and uses relevant computer applications and software for patient documentation, billing, reporting, and other operational requirements.
• Participates in organizational training programs and implements care services in accordance with organizational requirements.
• Serves as unit receptionist, including cash management responsibilities, in the absence of the receptionist
• Performs other duties assigned by the supervisor to support efficient clinic operations and quality patient care.

Delivery (At facilities where child delivery is offered)

• Conducts patient deliveries independently at the centre in accordance with approved protocols.
• Ensures appropriate care of the mother throughout the labour and delivery process.
• Provides post-partum care to mothers and appropriate immediate care to newborns.
• Identifies high-risk cases and ensures timely referral to appropriate facilities.
• Provides abortion care to eligible clients in accordance with approved protocols.
• Provides family planning counselling and services to mothers following delivery.
• Ensures availability of all required labour and delivery equipment at the centre.
• Ensures sterilization of delivery equipment and maintains PPM records.
• Reports equipment replacement or maintenance requirements to management promptly.

Eligibility Criteria

• Diploma in Lady Health Visitor or Midwifery from a recognized institution
• Valid registration with the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC).
• Minimum 1 year of relevant professional experience. Fresh candidates with valid PNC registration may also apply.
