Summary: A Child Protection Specialist supports field operations by providing technical assistance and guidance on child protection. He/ She identifies and screens children with specific needs and makes sure that relevant child

protection programmes are in place. The Specialist will ensure programs and interventions will be designed to further the rights specified under conventions and national laws and evaluate areas of improvement and gaps within current programming. Furthermore, he/she offers capacity building, spreads latest research and evaluates child protection mechanisms in place.

Key Job Outcomes:

  1. Strategic Plan and Budget Implementation. Works with the teams to implement the strategic approach of the project specific to survivor of violence and prevention of SGBV. Assists in the development of quarterly and annual plans  for the project implementation. 
  2. Coordination. Develop and maintain strong coordination with refugees’ camps and all relevant stakeholders like Deputy Commissioner, District Health Officer.
  3. Mapping of child protection systems and development of a child protection strategy.
  4. Ensure child protection risks and strategies are assessed on a regular basis.
  5. Strengthening of child protection coordination mechanisms.
  6. Identify protection issues and services that affect children at risk.
  7. Design of child protection interventions.
  8. Establishment and support of monitoring and evaluate the child protection system.
  9. Regular field visits to monitor implementation of programmes and to provide technical guidance.
  10. Facilitate the Best interest Determination system (BID).
  11. Monitor and support the implementation of 1612 Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism (MRM) procedures.
  12. Implement and monitor programmes on child friendly spaces.
  13. Support of capacity building and training for Child Protection staff.
  14. Coordinate with other agencies, governments and NGOs to implement and coordinate common standards.
  15. Cooperate with Protection cluster to ensure that child protection issues are part of all initiatives and documents, i.e. participate in Chile Protection working group.
  16. Ensuring compliance with national and international commitments to children rights
  17. Meeting and Forum Attendance. Attends relevant meetings as well as forums to foster and enhance collaboration. Identifies new and improved approaches, methods and ideas.
  18. Report writing and sharing with direct supervisor
  19. Any other task assigned by direct supervisor for smooth implementation of the project

 

 

Minimally Required Job-Specific Competencies:

  • Country Specific Public Health System: Foundational knowledge of countries’ public health systems.
  • Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Services: Foundational knowledge of family planning and reproductive health principles, practices and services of assigned program or project, including program or project strategies and indicators.
  • Ability to deliver training to diverse groups.
  • Data Processing: Foundational knowledge of data processing.
  • PC Applications: Foundational knowledge of database and internet applications.
  • Should have preferably worked in project or field related activities.
  • Ability to lead, train, supervises, facilitates and motivates other GBV staff and local partners in their respective tasks in a professional, respectful and supportive manner.
  • Positive and professional attitude, able to organize, maintain composure and prioritize work under pressure, work overtime when necessary and can coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail. Ability to work as a member of a team essential.
  • Ability to work in a complex environment, responsible for multiple tasks and produce high quality results in a short time.
  • Computer skills: MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint Ability, and willingness for frequent travel to the field sites.
  • Excellent coordination skills with demonstrated ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise confidentiality and professionalism
  • Covid vaccination certificate would be desirable as per government protocols.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Organization, Planning and Multi-tasking: Advanced organizational and planning skills, project planning and management skills. Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and multi-task with minimal supervision. Proven ability to coordinate activities.

Minimally Required Education, Training and Experience:

  • An advanced university degree in international development, human rights, psychology, sociology, international law, or another relevant social science field.
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas is required:  social development programme planning, communication for development, public advocacy, child protection or another related area
  • Relevant educational background and knowledge of the UN.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the complexity related to refugee and IDP situations
