The Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) is an institution of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) established by the Aga Khan Foundation in 1982. AKRSP has been working in Gilgit Baltistan and Chitral of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan with the overall goal of improving the quality of life of the people in the programme area.

The AKRSP is seeking a high calibre professional for the position of Communication Officer to be based in Core Office Gilgit.

Job Purpose:

The Communications Officer (Visibility & Content Development) will work with the Project Manager & assist Lead of Communications to create exciting digital content to engage and keep relevant stakeholders informed about the work of the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) under EU funded CSO & Youth project as well as ensure donor & AKDN visibility in all commination material. The person in this role is expected to have excellent writing skills, proven experience of managing digital platforms and the ability to develop engaging social media content.

Job Description: 

Major responsibilities of the Communication Officer are as following:

  • Create visually engaging social media content about the work of AKRSP under its EU funded CSO & Youth project for multiple platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Write news articles and blogs for the AKDN websites about the work of AKRSP, including ‘human interest stories’, to bring our impact to life.
  • Solicit programme updates and impact stories from the AKRSP regional offices in GBC and edit articles/updates to a high standard before publishing on the AKRSP website.
  • Co-manage AKRSP’s social media to schedule posts and ensure there is a steady stream of content across platforms.
  • Develop strong relationships with partner organisations who can help amplify the reach of AKRSP’s digital content.
  • Support the Project team to create communications products for internal & external sharing.
  • Create engaging monthly newsletters to deliver inspiring stories to the stakeholders.
  • Develop and design both digital and print marketing materials, i.e. leaflet, brochure, flyer for use at various events.
  • Copy edit case studies, evidence reports, other technical documents  
  • Any other responsibilities allocated to the jobholder. 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s (16 years) Degree essential in a relevant subject, preferably in Development Communications, Digital Marketing, Media & Communication or Liberal Arts with a solid understanding of development issues and challenges in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral.

 
Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in the field of Communication in Non-Profit sector.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of various social media and content development skills.
  • Experience of developing high quality communications materials and knowledge of latest communication platforms, tools, trends and developments.
  • Intermediate-advanced PowerPoint skills.
  • Intermediate-advanced graphic design skills with experience of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator; InDesign; Photoshop), online communications tools, and Office and Mac apps.
  • Experience of using WordPress, managing websites and social media scheduling tools.
