JOB TITLE 

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND MARKETING OFFICER

KARACHI with Frequent travel to Haryali hub Sites at Malir and Kemari and other parts of Sindh as and when required.

PART 1 – JOB DESCRIPTION 

JOB OVERVIEW  

The Business Development and Marketing Officer is responsible for contributing to the sustainability of the UKAM project’s solid waste management model (the Haryali Hub) through the outworking of an agile, customer-driven, cost-effective approach to solid waste management. The Business Development and Marketing Officer will ensure appropriate community, market and value chain assessments, development and implementation of a contextualised business plan and marketing mix for each Haryali Hub and a demonstrable commitment to and emphasis on innovation, improvement and learning.

POSITION IN ORGANISATION 

  • Grade: B1

  • Reports to the Business Development and Marketing Coordinator

  • Coordinates closely with the project team members as and when required;

  • Interacts and shares learning and information with relevant team members at the Tearfund Country Office

ORGANISATIONAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • The position holder will be expected to adhere to and promote organisational values and principles while representing Tearfund;

  • Undertake all activities in accordance with internal management systems, operating procedures and policies and programmatic protocols; support team and organisational efforts to maintain compliance

KEY RESPONSIBILITY

Project Strategy 

  • Support the Business Development and Marketing Coordinator to ensure that Tearfund’s purpose, core values and project objectives are communicated to department team members to create mutual understanding and ownership;

  • Support the Business Development and Marketing Coordinator in developing and maintaining the collaborative approach required to create value and maximise impact; 

Project Support

  • Understand, take ownership of and implement the marketing functions/tasks outlined in the approved Enterprise Business Plan;

  • Research and analyse market trends and competitors and provide suggestions to change the marketing strategy, if any.

  • Forecast sales and market potential, establish business objectives as well as action plans and coordinate market research studies.

  • Develop and implement an evolving marketing plan to engage economic stakeholders, manage customer relationships and develop and enhance revenue streams;

  • Identify suitable markets for Haryali Hub products and conduct comprehensive market assessments/analysis focusing on relevant quantitative and qualitative aspects as required by the approved Business Plan; 

  • In consultation with the Business Development and Marketing Coordinator, engage with marketing allies/partners and potential investors to generate revenue, contribution and/or support for the Enterprise

  • Ensure that efficient and effective marketing practices and tools are in place and that timely review and adaptive action is possible;

  • Ensure that the business environment of the Haryali Hubs is flexible, appropriately responsive to internal and external factors and focused on innovation and learning;

  • Ensure the proper management and reporting of the specific business development and marketing initiatives and actions with specific attention to the effect on the success of the UKAM project;

  • Ensure that sales targets of different products and by-products (where appropriate) are met consistently; any variance(s) must be properly forecast and properly addressed;

  • Identify new business opportunities, market penetration probability and implementation and provide information for expansion as well as product and market development.

  • Support the Business Development and Marketing Coordinator as and when appropriate on developing cost-cutting methods.

  • Support the Business Development and Marketing Coordinator for developing business development plans for both Haryali Hub in consultation with business development consultants. 

  • Ensure implementation of the key activities required to deliver the Haryali Hub Business Plan; 

  • Ensure the availability of required information to the Business Development and Marketing Coordinator in a timely manner; accurate recording, archiving and dissemination of information generated by the role is essential;

  • In consultation with the Business Development and Marketing Coordinator, provide relevant internal and external stakeholders with high quality information as per their need, frequency, urgency and schedule; required level of discretion is to be maintained

  • Support the Business Development and Marketing Coordinator by organising meetings with relevant internal and external stakeholders, recording and disseminating high-quality minutes and following up on decided actions;

  • Support the Business Development and Marketing Coordinator in developing reports and materials for the Country Office, UK office and the donor; ensure that content and presentation are to a high standard and ensure that required formats and submission deadlines are met           

  • Support the Business Developmentand Marketing Coordinator as required during project visits by the Tearfund Country Office, UK office and/or donor representatives;

  • Support the Business Developmentand Marketing Coordinator by helping to develop and maintain an enabling environment for learning, innovation and continuous improvement

  • As part of the project team, support and promote effective teamwork and commitment to Tearfund’s Core Values and Quality Standards;

EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS / REPRESENTATION

  • Participate in project activities and events as and when appropriate and represent Tearfund in these said occasions;

  • Participate in workshops/trainings/events organised by the Country Office, UK office, and/or donors and give input on behalf of the project team and the organisation;

  • Support the Enterprise Development Coordinator where appropriate in representing Tearfund to other INGOs, NGOs, government departments, government agencies, partners, associates and affiliates and ensuring coordination and constructive working relations with the same;

  • Support the Enterprise Development Coordinator where appropriate in representing Tearfund to donor representatives and other visitors to the project office and working areas;

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business administration (BBA)

  • Proven client / customer relationship management experience;

  • Proven event management experience;

  • Relevant experience of working in urban centres in solid waste management / recycling;
