Since starting operations in Pakistan, CARE has responded with life-saving support to a series of large-scale disasters. Through emergency programs, CARE International in Pakistan (CIP) has provided relief, recovery and rehabilitation support to millions of Pakistanis affected by disastrous floods, earthquakes and displacement. CIP works through its local partners and a range of stakeholders for development, as well as emergency response related interventions, which makes collaboration a key component of its work, across the country. We are a nationally inclusive organization that strives to support the most vulnerable communities all over Pakistan, with particular attention to women and girls and youth.

Since the onset of 2022 monsoon floods in Pakistan, CARE International has initiated much needed life-saving humanitarian response for flood affected communities in Baluchistan, Sindh and Punjab provinces.

I. Job Summary:

As part of the communication team, and in coordination with various short-term and long-term emergency projects, the Communications Assistant will be responsible for supporting the Emergency Response team in creating and publishing content brainstorming ideas and developing communication material (flyers, brochures, posters, IEC material etc) and other publications. The communications assistant will work with the emergency response team at CARE for communications related activities and tasks. Other responsibilities may include drafting, and editing publication materials and communications copy and helping to execute communications projects and strategies.

II. Job Responsibilities and Tasks:

Job Responsibility #1: Support Communications Department

% of time: 40%

  • Support team with presentation design and critical eye for data visualization communication.
  • Liaise with graphic designers, videographers, photographers and other vendors to develop and produce materials.
  • Ensure branding and style compliance, and represent communication policies and guidelines across all materials as per CARE branding guidelines.
  • Offer administrative support to the communications function in tracking products and materials according to deadlines.

Job Responsibility #2: Content Collection and Development

% of time: 30%

  • Offer support to all teams in designing and editing materials for a range of audiences and contexts, including research and meeting reports, case studies and briefs.
  • Contribute in collecting content through photography and videography from the field areas.
  • Support Communications function in data collection for monthly eNewsletters, social media and publications
  • Support Communications function in maintaining a collection of photos, graphics, icons, infographics, and data bites video clips to use in various digital content.

Job Responsibility #3: Record keeping

% of time: 25%

  • Document success stories from the project based on information received from the partners.
  • Assist the project teams in reviewing and archiving in a compliant manner all project documents such as consent forms.
  • Ensure that all the documents received from field are properly reviewed and verified. Identify gaps in documentation and ensure accuracy.
  • Coordinate responses to incoming media inquiries, review of press releases, and relevant news coverage monitoring.

Job Responsibility #4: Any other task as assigned by the supervisor.

% of time: 05%

  • The duties and responsibilities described above are subject to change, depending on organizational needs.
  • Safety and Security is everyone’s responsibility within CIP through full compliance and accountability (as per Principle –ii of the CARE International Safety & Security Principles).

III. Qualifications (Know How)

a) Education/Training

Required:  Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Journalism, Media, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field is required for advanced positions.

Desired: Master’s degree in any related field will be preferred.

b) Experience:

Required: 

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a communications role
  • Experience in of creating and publishing content, overseeing office communication activities, brainstorming ideas and developing newsletters and other publications

Desired:  Experience of working with International NGOs.

c) Technical Skills

Successful candidates must possess the following skills and abilities:

  • Strong computer skills particularly in design software (Adobe preferred)
  • Technical know-how pertaining to social media management
  • Strong time management skills with the capacity to adapt to a changing environment and work under tight deadlines
  • Excellent writing, communication, proofreading, editing and presentation skills.
  • Detail-oriented and organizational skills- managing multiple tasks and activities with keen eye for detail is essential
  • Interpersonal skills- ability to collaborate and coordinate with various departments, the management, external stakeholders, as well as other employees, is essential
  • Strong communication skills-  writing clear, concise, and professional press releases, company announcements, and other communications to share with the public.
  • Teamwork: The ability to collaborate.

d) Competencies:

Respect, accountability, building commitment, stress tolerance, collaboration, contributing to team success, customer focus and information monitoring.  

Teamwork – Able to work effectively with other people within a work group.

Writing – Able to communicate ideas and information in writing to ensure that information and messages are understood and have the desired impact.

VI. Contacts/Key Relationships 

The Communication Assistant is expected to work with the Communication Specialist, project managers, other team members, partners and support teams on related functional affairs, consistently coordinate and team up to achieve the desired communication activities. The position is to have constant contact with the internal and external stakeholders for communication activities.

V. Working Conditions and Level of Travel Required

The position is based in Islamabad with around 50% travel to field and partner organizations as per organizational requirement.
