Detailed Job Description

1.       Purpose of the position

The Plumbing Engineer will be responsible for making technical assessments of houses and sites where Rainwater Harvesting Units (RWHUs) are to be installed; preparation of plumbing drawings and BOQs accordingly; training, support and supervision of plumbers during installation of Rainwater Harvesting Units as per drawings and BOQs; and regular monitoring of the functioning of the installed units.

2.       Duties, tasks and responsibilities

2.1.             Technical Assessment

-          Undertake detailed technical assessment of identified houses and sites using the Engineering Assessment Formats; 

-          Determine the technical feasibility of assessed houses and sites for the installation of Rainwater Harvesting Units.

2.2.             Design

-          In light of technical assessment, design the house and site specific Rainwater Harvesting Units;

-          Develop required engineering and installation drawings accordingly using AutoCAD;

-          Develop BOQs as per engineering design;

-          Evaluate the drawings before their final submission to the Engineering Unit. 

2.3.             Training of and hands on support to plumbers

-          Design training content and training events and deliver training and refreshers to the plumbers;

-          Provide hands on support to plumbers as and when required;

2.4.             Material testing/approval

-          Assist procurement unit in selection of plumbing material, items and supplies;

-          Assist procurement unit in ensuring that the procured materials/supplies are the same as mentioned in their technical specifications provided/claimed by the suppliers/vendors/manufacturers;

-          Prepare house and site specific inventory of the required material/supplies to be delivered at the installation site as per submitted installation/execution plans;

-          Check the delivered items for their quantity and quality before their installation.

2.5.             Installation/execution 

-          Develop Installation/Execution Plans in coordination with the field project team and procurement unit;

-          Assign installation sites to the plumbers;

-          Supervise and monitor the installation of the Rainwater Harvesting Units as per engineering drawings while ensuring the compliance with all required engineering and quality standards;

-          Document the installation process as per guidelines and reporting formats;

-          Ensure that required worksite safety requirements and standards are being followed by plumbers and their assistants;

-          Dry run the installed units to assess any issues and get the same rectified on site;

-          Prepare and sign the Installation Completion Report/Certificate.

2.6.             Compliance

-          Ensure compliance with all required technical, quality and safety standards;

-          Ensure compliance with Installation and Execution Plans and timelines;

-          Ensure compliance with overall project execution plans and timelines;

-          Comply with all applicable guidelines,SOPs, policies and procedures of Shehersaaz.

2.7.             Communication & Coordination

-          Communicate and coordinate with project’s field and central teams;

-          Closely communicate and coordinate with the Drawing Unit to get the required 2D and 3D drawings prepared;

-          Closely communicate and coordinate with the Engineering Unit.

-          Coordinate with the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit and facilitate their monitoring and evaluation visits and reporting.

2.8.             Other Tasks

-          Undertake any other professional tasks and assignments as may be assigned from time to time by the Line Manager and Shehersaaz’s Management.

4.       Working conditions

-          Office functions will primarily be performed at Shehersaaz’s respective field office;

-          Occasional intercity travel is required;

-          Frequent visits to selected houses and sites in the target areas are required.

5.       Minimum qualification (Education and experience)

5.1.             Education/Experience

-          Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a reputable institution is preferred. However Sub-engineers fulfilling above mentioned conditions can also apply.

-          Proven 4-5 years’ experience in the engineering field with at least 2-3 years of experience as a Plumbing Engineer in a reputed firm or project;

-          Experience of developing, reading and understanding architectural and engineering plans/drawings is a must.

5.2.             Computer literacy

-          Ability of operate AutoCAD and AutoCAD MEP is highly preferable;

-          Ability to operate 3D drawing and automation softwares is a plus;

-          Ability to use Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access).

5.3.             Language Proficiency 

-          Especially for Nowshera, candidates who can fluently communicate in Pushto are encouraged to apply;

-          Ability to write short and clear reports and emails in English is highly preferable.

5.4.             Physical Demands

This is a physically and mentally demanding job as it involves siting, climbing, balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling on sites. The employee may also require to lift or push light weight objects like hand and power tools; pipes, fittings and tanks. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, colour vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
