Job Description - Trainer Urdu

Job Purpose:

To ensure development of high quality, standards-based Urdu teaching and learning resources by planning, designing and implementing all Urdu curriculum materials and activities under the supervision of the Curriculum Director.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

Fulfills an overall responsibility of implementation of content and pedagogy of National Curriculum standards at program level in all directly managed and partner projects.

 

Material Development

  • Conduct needs analysis with DIL and partner schools to assess student and teacher population needs
  • Research best practices used for teaching individual subject’s content with particular focus on activity-based learning models
  • Design Schemes of Work to sequence subject instruction in a logical and effective way
  • Adapt activities and teaching strategies to be used with DIL students and non-DIL students
  • Write subject lessons for teachers guides that include content, skills, attitude, and pedagogy for students based on SNC and/or other curriculum documents
  • Follow DIL guidelines for formatting
  • Identify activities and teaching techniques appropriate to student age level
  • Develop low-cost/no-cost support materials
  • Use knowledge and understanding of relevant issues, ideas and theories for developing curriculum materials.
  • Communicate changes or recommendations to Curriculum Director.
  • Create assessments for both formal and informal student evaluations
  • Develop tool for observing and monitoring curriculum use in the classroom
  • Prepare guide orientation materials to ensure proper and effective use of materials in the classroom
  • Create and design lessons and materials for both face to face and blended learning models

 

Implementation

  • Provide guide orientations to teachers to introduce new materials, lesson plans and ensure effective implementation
  • Ensure that guide orientation makes use of multiple strategies based on different learning styles and ability levels identified in the need analysis
  • Use a variety of assessment and follow up methods before, during and after training to measure the progress the learners are making
  • Pilot new modules to identify gaps
  • Ensure curriculum plan is executed as per LFA

 

 Monitoring & Support 

  • Conduct observations of teachers and evaluate progress against objectives using observation tools
  • Visit project schools to assess quality of teaching and learning and ensure implementation of intervention
  • Ensure all data collected from visit is documented and shared with Curriculum Director and relevant subject trainers.  

 Communication, Coordination & Administrative:

  • Develop annual curriculum budget
  • Ensure proper dissemination of information between teachers, trainers projects and staff, developing cross-functional coordination, resolving communication issues and encouraging creative problem solving
  • Submit quarterly reports on status and progress of planned activities

 R & D Work:

  • Research new techniques and strategies, keeping up to date on international best practices
  • Keep up to date about latest government policies and decisions and aligning material accordingly
  • Undertake research projects to enhance analytical skills
  • Liaise with Government stakeholders to ensure DIL’s participation and representation nationally

 

Subject Specific Skills:

 

 

  • Content Knowledge

Strong knowledge of Urdu language pedagogy and content and well versed with subject specific vocabulary

 

  • National Standards

Familiarity with Single National Curriculum and able to present the curriculum in a coherent manner

 

  • Activity Based Teaching

Knowledge of student-centered teaching methods; Knowledge of subject-specific teaching methodologies and proven strategies

 

  • Assessing Learning

Knowledge of formal and informal methods of assessing learning

Education, qualification, skills and experience:

Education: (Formal degree)

 

  • Masters Degree from a recognized University in Education and Specific subject.

 

Qualification: (Certification, diploma in training etc)

 

  • Certificate in teacher training

 

(Relevant) Experience:

 

  • 2 to 3 years of relevant experience in education or development sector

 

Skills: (Essential and Desirable)

 

  • Communication Skills:

Excellent oral and writing skills in English language

  • Strategic Thinking and Orientation:

Ability to apply strong analytical skills in the development of long term and short term plans.

  • Decision Making Skills:

Ability to work under minimum supervision. A multitasking spirit to handle tough situations and stringent circumstances.

  • Leadership Skills:

Ability to provide leadership and guidance as mentor to peers and trainers in accordance with the developmental needs.

  • Interpersonal skills: 

Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to create a climate of trust and transparency.  Fostering team work and performing effectively in a team.

Technical knowledge/ know how

  • Competence in assessing needs and developing curriculum materials, assessments, monitoring tools, SOWs and quarterly reports
  • Experience in budget preparation and management.
  • Competence in using MS office; Word, Power Point, Excel and Google Suite
