U.S. Mission Pakistan is seeking applications from qualified individuals for Consular Assistant (General) position in U.S. Consulate General, Lahore.

Basic Function of the Position The Consular Assistant interacts daily with U.S. citizens, visa applicants, host government officials, and other interested parties to provide the full range of Nonimmigrant Visa, and American Citizen Services, including Special Consular Services offered at Post.  The Consular Assistant requires a high-level attention to detail to ensure cases meet documentary requirements, as well as to spot trends or potential issues and escalate those as necessary.  The Consular Assistant is fully cross trained to function in any role as required by consular scheduling.  The incumbent serves as one of the primary points of contact for U.S. citizens in the consular district and maintains a network of public and private sector contacts who may be able to assist U.S. citizens.  The Consular Assistant communicates directly with consular applicants, host country government officials, and U.S. citizens in distress, and assists in the preparation of emergency messaging and website updates. The Consular Assistant fields inquiries by phone, in-person, or in writing (email or written correspondence).  The Consular Assistant handles routine inquires and directs only highly complex, unusual, or questionable inquires to a supervisor or consular officer.

Qualification Requirements:

Experience: Minimum two (2) years of experience involving the application of regulations and law, extensive public contact, customer service, and/or problem-solving is required.

Education: Completion of two years of college or university studies (14 years of education) is required.

Job Knowledge: The incumbent should have knowledge of the local cultural, social, and legal environment as well as applicable U.S. and host government laws, regulations, procedures, and policies, including local family and immigration and customs law.

Language: Level IV (Fluent) Reading/Writing/Speaking in English and Urdu is required. English language skills may be tested.

Skills And Abilities: The incumbent must have knowledge and skills of MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and Power Point.  Must be able to act independently and exercise sound judgment at all times. Initiative, common sense, and tact are required to meet unexpected and unique situations.  Discretion is required to uphold privacy rights of U.S. citizen customers.  Must be able to maintain working relationships with local officials; this includes representing the Embassy or Consulate with high-level contacts.  Must be able to work professionally and productively with contacts and customers from all backgrounds. Skills and abilities may be tested.
